NJDOT: Route 35, 36 Intersection Construction Still on Schedule

Work is scheduled to be completed in January, 2013

The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) says completion of the reveamped intersection of Routes 35 and 36 in is still scheduled to be completed in January, 2013.

There has not been much activity around the site within the last few months, and probably will not be until the third phase of the project begins early this summer, according to NJDOT Spokesman Timothy Greeley.

During the third and final construction stage the contractor, DeFino Contracting, will:

• Shift Route 35 northbound to the new alignment.

• Make improvements to the Route 36 westbound ramp to Route 35 northbound.

• Construct a new loop ramp to connect Route 36 eastbound traffic to Route 35 northbound.

• Complete final median, sidewalk, surface pavement work and drainage throughout the project limits.

Earlier this year, the NJDOT announced that the completion of the construction would be delayed due to utility relocation problems.

"Based on utility relocation delays and other factors outside of their control, a schedule extension was authorized providing our construction contractor with a substantial completion date of January 2013," Greeley said. "This is approximately six months beyond the original schedule for substantial completion of the project."

One of the goals of the project is to ease congestion at the Route 36 and Wyckoff Road area. By the end of the project, Route 36 eastbound traffic that now heads down Wyckoff Road (by  and the ) en route to Route 35 north (by), will be redirected. Eventually drivers, exiting the parkway for example, will head east on Route 36 and will pass Wyckoff Road to take a new jughandle (by), which will put them onto Route 35 north (by ).
