Holmdel Police have arrested a 26-year old Swedesboro man on charges he engaged in sexual intercourse with a 14-year old Holmdel township girl on at least two occasions this summer. Damon A. Wilson was arrested at his Shady Brook Lane residence on Thursday and charged with two counts of sexual assault and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child. According to information released by the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office, the alleged offenses occurred at a residence in Holmdel in June, and at the Holiday Inn Express in West Long Branch in August. Faces several charges relating to October event
West Long Branch resident Michael J. Dougherty, 35, was indicted on seven charges stemming from a traffic stop that ended with a confrontation with a member of the Howell Police Department. On Oct. 10, 2011 Dougherty was stopped by Patrolman Thomas Matthews for a cell phone violation. At that time Dougherty "aggressively challenged" Matthews according to Detective Sgt. Eileen Dodd. It took the help of two witnesses and other officers from the department for him to finally be subdued. According to the indictment from the Monmouth County Grand Jury Dougherty faces one count of third degree resisting arrest as part of the incident. Man stole electrical wire from store
A Highlands man has been arrested and charged for shoplifting from the Home Depot in West Long Branch. Gary Austin, 32, of Highlands, was arrested and charged on Nov. 7 with shoplifting from the store, located at 310 Highway 36. Austin allegedly concealed 10 rolls of electrical wire valued at $1,472.75. Austin was sent to the Monmouth County Jail where his bail was set at $2,500. His initial court appearance is scheduled for Dec. 7.

Incident occurred on Adelphia Road in Howell on Monday morning
A Howell police officer was hospitalized after a traffic stop on Adelphia Road Monday morning turned violent. By the time the incident was over, the officer was injured and the West Long Branch resident he had pulled over for a cell phone violation was arrested on several charges. At 8:08 a.m. Monday, Patrolman Thomas Matthews reportedly pulled over Michael J. Dougherty, 35, in his 2009 Nissan Altima. According to Detective Sgt. Eileen Dodd, Dougherty "aggressively challenged" the officer after getting out of his car. Despite being ordered back to his car several times, the driver repeatedly disobeyed and approached the officer, police said. An Asbury Park resident has been arrested and charged with attempted burglary for trying to enter the home of a West Long Branch resident, police said. Altonia Williams, 34, of Asbury Park, was charged with attempting to burglarize a home on Mount Drive in West Long Branch on Sept. 6 at 2 p.m. According to the West Long Branch Police, the homeowner was at home and scared off Williams before he could enter the home. Williams fled to the area of Norwood Avenue and Brighton Avenue and was located by the Long Branch Police, and positively identified by the homeowner.
