Work Under Way on Sept. 11 Memorial at TF Fire Co. No. 1; Dedication Ceremony Set

The District 2 firehouse will dedicate its new memorial honoring 9/11 victims on the tenth anniversary of the attacks.

The gaping hole in front in Fire Company No. 1 on Tinton Avenue is filled with rainwater right now but soon, it will support steele beams from the fallen Twin Towers as part of a new memorial to vicitms of the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks. The firehouse announced that it would hold a dedication ceremony for the finished memorial, in conjunction with its annual service, at 11 a.m. on Sept. 11 and invited the public to attend. The monument replaces a scaled down version of the World Trade Center, including lit windows and towering antenna, that was constructed by member Jared Stevens, soon after the attacks.
