Suneagles Golf Course and Gibbs Hall Contract Up for Grabs

The original contract has run out and must go out to bid again.

The Suneagles Golf Course and Gibbs Hall could be under new management this spring. Both are owned by the Army which is temporarily leasing the property to the Fort Monmouth Economic Revitalization Authority (FMERA), the authority that oversees the redevelopment of the fort from Army installation to civilian properties. For more than a year now Atlantic Golf has managed the Eatontown course. It subcontracts the banquet facilities management to McLoone's. The successful bidder for the contract will pay FMERA $10,000 per quarter to reimburse it for the cost of leasing it from the Army. The Army has extended it's lease to FMERA for an additional 18 months. FMERA officials say they hope to sell off the property to a private owner in the near …

Atlantic Golf to Get Extension for Suneagles Golf Course Contract

Fort redevelopers expect an at least six month lease extension from Army.

Atlantic Golf Management will likely get six more months added to its contract to operate the Army-owned Suneagles Golf Course. The board of the Fort Monmouth Economic Revitaliztion Authority announced Wednesday that the Army has agreed to an extension of the lease it has with the redevelopment authority for the golf course. The extension would be for a minimum of six months or until the property is conveyed to FMERA, which will in turn sell the property. Under the terms of the lease FMERA has contracted out the management of the formerly military only golf course to a private company, in this case, Atlantic Golf, which took over operations last summer. The company's one-year contract is set to expire at the end of September.  The golf …

The Fort Monmouth Base Realignment and Closure

Future of Suneagles Golf Course May Be Decided Friday

Special meeting set for Friday to discuss a lease with the Army.

There is still more than a week to go before closure of Fort Monmouth, but already the Suneagles Golf Course is closed with no clear answer as to when it will reopen. Will the Army grant a golf course lease to the local fort redevelopers anytime soon? Will golfers be able to tee off again before the close of Fort Monmouth next week? These are some of the questions that could be answered on Friday when the Fort Monmouth Economic Revitalization Authority (FMERA) holds a special board meeting at 11 a.m. in its Eatontown offices at 2-12 Corbett Way. According to FMERA, formal action may be taken at this meeting on a lease from the U.S. Army for the Suneagles Golf Course. The proposed agenda will be posted on the FMERA Web site 48 hours prior …

Frustrated Fort Monmouth Redevelopers Want Army to Keep Golf Course Open

How many agencies does it take to hand over a golf course? If it's an Army course, the answer is apparently six.

If you planned on teeing up this weekend at Suneagles Golf Course, you might want to make other plans. Because unless the Army has a sudden change of heart, the course is set to close Aug. 31.  Redevelopment officials say they have been working for months, meeting at the highest levels of authority, to keep up continous play at the course in the midst of the Army's closure of the installation next month.  "Frustrated" is the word redevelopment officials most often use regarding the immediate future of the Army's golf course. "We're frustrated at our inability to get anybody at the Army to see outside the box," said FMERA's executive director, Bruce Steadman. There are six Army entities tied to the property and, he said, "They all say it's …

Atlantic Golf Management Wins Bid to Run Ft. Monmouth's Golf Course

Firm will pay a fee to the fort's redevelopment authority to run the course and its banquet facilities.

Atlantic Golf Management, Inc. of Farmingdale will be the new operators of the Suneagles Golf Course located on the property of Fort Monmouth. The Fort Monmouth Economic Revitalization Authority (FMERA) made the announcement Wednesday that the firm had the winning bid and the highest technical rating of the two bidders. Under the contract, Atlantic Golf Management will pay FMERA between $5,000 and $11,000 per month to operate the course and its restaurants and banquet facilities, with revenues increasing if proceeds exceed $1 million. According to CEO Stephen Rice, "Atlantic Golf is a newly formed company resulting from a recent merger between Linx Golf Management and H & L Golf Maintenance Company, two successful New Jersey based golf …

" . . .The management contract is for a period of 12 months. FMERA hopes that after that period (and possibly even before) to orchestrate the sale of the property to a private owner." They can't possibly lose with a 12 month contract like that but anything after that, they are holding a melting ice cube.   more ›

Golf Course Bidders Get Their Questions Answered

Request for proposals for the Suneagles Golf Course were due Monday. Bidders want to know about green fees and the liquor license.

Fort Monmouth's golf course took one more step toward civilian life this week. Monday was the deadline for interested parties to submit their proposals for the management and maintenence contract up for grabs at Suneagles Golf Course on Fort Monmouth property. On Sept. 16 the course will no longer be operating under the Army, but instead will be leased to the Fort Monmouth Economic Development Authority (FMERA). FMERA is offering a one-year contract to the successful bidder. As a part of the request for proposal (RFP) process, intersted parties were allowed to submit questions to the authority which were posted on FMERA's Web site. Seventy questions in all were submitted. To view the list yourself visit the FMERA Web site. Many of the …

Celebrity Golfers and Dancing Under the Stars, Fort Monmouth Course Had It All

Suneagles Golf Course predates Fort Monmouth and will return to its civilian roots in September.

Last week, the people in charge of redeveloping Fort Monmouth put out a Request for Proposal (RFP) for the maintenence and management of the Suneagles Golf Course and its restaurant and banquet facilities. According to officials, when the fort closes on Sept. 15 the golf course will continue to operate under a new management firm. Amidst the legal jargon and technical aspects of the 50-page document is an interesting historical profile of the golf course, which predates the fort itself. Patch has included the history here in its entirety. According to the RFP, written by the Fort Monmouth Economic Revitalization Authority, sometime in the early 1920s, Max Phillips of the famed Phillips Van Heusen Clothing Company of New York City and the …
