Blue Devils shut out for first time this year

Florence downed Shore Regional 23-0 in the NJSIAA Tournament Quarterfinals on Saturday afternoon. Florence rushed for 3 touchdowns and shut out the Blue Devils for the first time this season. Check back later for a full recap of today's game.

Shore Regional, Long Branch School Budgets Pass

Shore Regional Board of Education will see no change, Long Branch Board of Education will have two new members

Long Branch and Shore Regional's budgets were passed on Wednesday night, thanks in part to a decent voter turnout for both schools. 1,286 residents voted on the Long Branch budget with 766 voting to pass it and 520 voting not to approve it. The budget showed a 0 percent increase over last year.  For the Shore Regional budget, a total of 1,884 residents from Monmouth Beach, Sea Bright, West Long Branch and Oceanport, the school's four sending districts, cast their ballots on Wednesday night. Of those residents, 1,052 voted for the budget and 832 voted against it.  On Thursday, Shore Regional Business Administrator Dennis Kotch said he was still awaiting the tally of votes from each town to see how each individually voted. Shore Regional Students Help Community Get Ready to Vote

Students volunteer to help register people to vote.

Shore Regional High School students are doing their part to ensure that everybody in the community exercises their right to vote.  Through Wednesday, April 27, the day of the school elections, seniors from the school's student council, National Honor Society and AP classes will set up shop in the main entrance of the school. They will be asking those who enter the school if they are registered to vote, and if they are not, they can help people do so. "We're trying to get people to vote, not vote for or against the school budget," senior Connor Arnette, 17, of Monmouth Beach said. "We're just out to make people aware." Wednesday is Deadline to Register to Vote in School Elections

Register by Wednesday to vote for school tax levies and board of education candidates in April 27 election

Residents not currently registered to vote must do so by Wednesday if they want to vote in this year's school election, according to the New Jersey School Boards Association. Residents can register with their municipal clerk or county board of elections. School elections will take place April 27. Polls are open from 4 to 9 p.m. for residents to vote on the Shore Regional High School and Long Branch Public Schools' budgets. Voters will cast ballots on proposal local school district tax levies and candidates for open Board of Education seats. Shore Regional Baseball Team Shines in Season Opener

The Shore Regional High School baseball team opened its season in style, defeating Point Pleasant Beach, 5-3, in West Long Branch on Saturday afternoon. The Gulls were bedeviled by Shore's starter Matt Dwyer, who was dominant allowing one unearned run over five innings. “He was tremendous for us today,” said Shore head coach Jeff Karpell. “He was able to mix all of his pitches and did a good job of keeping Point Beach off balanced.”  The Gulls were able to plate the game's first run aided by a two-base error by Shore’s right fielder Alex Cameron. Three of Four Shore Regional Sending Districts to See Tax Increase in 2011-12 School Budget

West Long Branch, Oceanport and Monmouth Beach tax rates up in adopted Shore Regional budget

Homeowners in West Long Branch, Oceanport and Monmouth Beach will see tax increases to finance the 2011-12 Shore Regional High School budget which was unanimously approved by the board of education during a special meeting on Tuesday night. Only Sea Bright residents will see a decrease in their tax bill. The four towns are the sending districts for Shore Regional and help finance the school. The 2011-12 school budget totals $15,240,137 with $14,386,255 to be raised through taxation. This year's tax levy is a 2 percent increase over the 2010-11 tax levy of $14,104,171. The tax rate in West Long Branch has increased from 0.366 per $100 in assessed value in 2010-11 to 0.376 per $100 in 2011-12. For the average West Long Branch home valued at…

JOE, they HAVE to raise taxes!! Under the BFP (Big FAT Pig) 2% Cap if you do not raise taxes this year, the next year you are screwed!!! Reasoning: for the 2011 budget you use the old 2010 budget numbers. If you don’t raise taxes in 2011 budget, when the 2012 budget comes up you can only raise the tax 2% of the 2010 budget! Shore Regional's AP Program Honored by College Board

Named to AP Achievement List for expansion of and improvements to AP classes

Shore Regional High School is being honored by the College Board after being added to the Advanced Placement Program's AP Achievement District Honor Roll for 2011. The West Long Branch school is one of fewer than 400 in the nation that is being honored by the College Board, which helps prepare students for college through its programs and services. According to a release from the school, it is receiving the honor for "opening AP classroom doors to a significantly broader pool of students, while maintaining or improving the percentage of students earning scores of 3.0 or higher." The number of Shore Regional students participating in AP has grown from 2008 to 2010 along with the number of students who score 3.0 or higher on AP exams. A 3.0 …

A Standing Ovation for Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat

The Shore Players production of Andrew Lloyd Weber's musical ended with enthusiastic cheers

The Shore Players, Shore Regional school districts theater department, had their closing performance of “Joseph and The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” at Shore Regional High School on Sunday, March 13.  The musical was “colorful” in more ways than one! The music of Andrew Lloyd Weber enlivened the crowd as they were traveled back in time to the biblical era.  Weber utilizes various styles of music throughout the show including: calypso, rock, disco, charleston, french ballads, and a western hoedown. Director Todd Aikens took advantage of the shifting musical styles and had the cast change costumes for the different numbers, creating a more enchanting world.  Aikens, a Shore Regional alum, put a distinctive spin on the traditional story by …

Shore Regional BOE Race Uncontested This Year

Three incumbents are running for three seats on the Shore Regional Board of Education

There will not be any changes to the Shore Regional Board of Education this year as three incumbents are running for three open seats. Current BOE Vice President Russell Olivadotti, Ronald O'Neill, both of West Long Branch, and Ted Szczurek, of Oceanport, will be running to hold their seats for additional three-year terms. The board currently consists of Olivadotti, O'Neill, Szczurek, BOE President Frank J. Shore Regional Hosts First Coffee House of 2011

WEST LONG BRANCH - The Shore Regional Coffee House opened its doors last week for its first session and students gathered to hear their peers perform. Preparations actually began last September as students set the pace and teachers Tracey Caltabilota and Linda Ensor took on their Coffee House co-advisor roles.  Chemistry teacher Lynda Aue ran the overall event for that evening. “Coffee House is a program that goes back to when I was at Shore,” Caltabilota said.   Ensor said there were about 50 students at last week's event. “We expect the next Coffee House will grow to maybe 100 students when it goes on again in the spring,” Ensor said.
