County continuing its seagull mitigation program
The seagulls have returned to Tinton Falls, however, the borough is saying that the problem is not as severe as the situation with the birds last year. Tinton Falls Council President Gary Baldwin, a resident of Seabook Village where many of the birds have been spotted, said he recently met with county and local officials and was told the problem is more of a seasonal issue. "We were assured that there has been no change in the program at the landfill and that their bird expert has added to the number of falcons being flown this summer at the site," Councilman Baldwin said on the Tinton Falls web site. "Their program has almost totally forced the seagulls from their feeding habitat at the County Landfill to other locations where a food …

This is the second year the program has been held at Seabrook, but residents are hoping it will continue as Bridges at the Shore takes the sandwiches and distributes them to the needy in Monmouth County. About 12 resident volunteers gathered in the kitchen of the Princeton Restaurant at Seabrook to make turkey and cheese sandwiches before placing them in paper bags, along with apples, chips, bottled water and a special form of encouragement. Residents included hand-written notes which were placed in each bag aimed at encouraging the recipient. …

Rev. David Bowman recalled during Seabrook Village's 9/11 service on Sunday how the Freehold hospital where he was working the day of the attack prepared to receive over a hundred injured, only to learn that no one was coming. Lisa Vargas, who is the facilities manager for the retirement community, was a paramedic at the time and visiting family when she got the call to help at the World Trade Center. She said she watched people going back into the north tower, after it fell, trying to help those who didn’t get out and she also watched as people walked, as opposed to running away from the third building that collapsed. On Sunday afternoon Seabrook Village in Tinton Falls held its first memorial service to honor those lost in the 9/11 …
