Woody's Food/Tent City is feeding thousands of Hurricane Sandy refugees and volunteers a day
"In all my 39 years as a fireman, I've never seen anything as bad as what Hurricane Sandy did here," said Sea Bright Fire Department Captain Dave Estelle, also a retired Deal policeman, as he chatted in front of the firehouse with other volunteers readying to feed the troops dinner. To the right of Estelle, where there used to be a public beach parking lot, there was an encampment: rows of U.S. Army National Guard tents, refrigeration trucks, hummers, soldiers and civilian volunteers scurrying around, sorting through supplies and on alert to help. Chris Wood, or Woody, the owner of Woody's Ocean Grille who spearheaded what had become unofficially dubbed Food/Tent City, milled around, totally in sync with his mission. He directed food, …

State Supreme Court appellate panel rules that the club must provide more public access to beaches taxpayers pay to have replenished
The tide has turned once again in a familiar Sea Bright beach access fight. After a settlement in the courts in 2006 that called for a string of private beach clubs to open at least portions of their beachfronts, one club, Sea Bright Beach Club, refused and is now being forced, via a new state Supreme Court ruling, to stop limiting public access, a Star Ledger story reported. The ruling is based on the fact that since taxpayer-funded beach replenishment made the beaches at the club more extensive, then taxpayers who foot the bill for it should be able to use those beaches. The new ruling, which came from a panel of three appellate judges, says that a 1993 ruling that allowed beach clubs to limit public access to a 15-foot swath close to…

Kind Burgers offers Angus, Kobe, lamb, turkey and portobello burgers with the option of gluten-free rolls.
Just a couple weeks past schedule, Kind Burgers has rolled back its giant storefront windows to let the aroma of grilling beef flow out onto the sidewalks of downtown Sea Bright. "My children have been waiting with bated breath for this place to open," said Kate Grossardh of Rumson. She and her son Will visited the new burger joint on Tuesday for a Kobe burger and and some Bell and Evan gluten-free chicken tenders. "We live right over the bridge so it's a close walk to somewhere that actually has healthy food," she said. Will, 8, seemed less concerned with the healthful benefits of his chicken tenders and more with how hungry he was after his three-hour practice with his soccer team, the Rumson Dirty Dawgs. "The food is good," he said …

No plans for Long Branch at this time
Congressman Pallone announced on Wednesday that that $12.3 million will be awarded to fund beach replenishment in Sea Bright and Monmouth Beach. The congressman submitted a request to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers last year to complete work in Monmouth Beach and begin beach replenishment in Sea Bright. Last month the Army Corps of Engineers completed a contract that replenished a portion of the beach in Monmouth Beach that went forward due to funding secured by Pallone in 2011. The funding will allow the Army Corps to begin replenishing the beaches in these towns this Fall. "This funding is vitally important for the Shore and I commend the Army Corps of Engineers for responding to my funding request for these projects,” Congressman …
