Fine is $35
With March 1's switch to paid parking in Asbury Park, the city is one of the earliest to put its metered parking into effect. Free parking still exists in many places through April, but you've got to shell out some quarters starting Friday in Asbury Park. The Asbury Park waterfront, the Cookman Avenue corridor and metered parking spots elsewhere in Asbury Park will be in effect starting March 1. The rate for all numbered spaces on Ocean Avenue is $2.00 per hour with a maximum limit of 3 hours. The rate for all other numbered spaces is $1.00 per hour without any time limits. Though the meters of course take cash, you can also process your parking fees with Debit Cards, Master Card, Visa or Discover Card. After you have paid at the meter …

City has already purchased meters, mapped out parking spaces
Long Branch is still undecided on whether or not it will install parking meters throughout the city for the 2013 summer season. At this time last year, the city seemed dead-set on using the parking meters to help boost revenue, but there have been many complaints from businesses and residents on the effect they will have on them. "The revenue requirements are still there, but we understand the effect it could have on businesses," City Business Administrator Howard Woolley said this week. "We are still trying to ascertain whether to do it or not." The city passed an $855,000 bond ordinance for the meters last June and outlined a plan where all the meters would be placed. The original plan was to have them installed and running by mid-July, …

Council discusses fees, locations and timing of meters
Residents could be seeing parking meters along the city's oceanfront by as soon as mid-July as the Long Branch Council fine-tunes its plans to implement the devices this summer. Councilwoman Kathleen Billings said the meters have become a necessity and that the city needs another source of revenue. "If there was something else we could do, we would gladly do it," Councilwoman Billing said. "But, it looks like it's something we have to do at this point." The Long Branch Council passed an ordinance last month that bonded $855,000 for the meters, which will be similar to those used in Asbury Park near the boardwalk and on Cookman Avenue. Each space would be striped and numbered and people who wish to park in them would pay at a meter with …

Motorists can even use their smart phone in order to add time. Long Branch Council introduces bond ordinance to purchase parking meters
The question now is not if Long Branch will utilize parking meters this summer; the question is where they will be located. The Long Branch Council took its first step in adding parking meters throughout the oceanfront area of the city by introducing a bond ordinance to purchase meters. The ordinance bonds $855,000 for the meters, which will be similar to those used in Asbury Park near the boardwalk and on Cookman Avenue. Each space would be striped and numbered and people who wish to park in them would pay at a meter with either coins, dollars or a credit card. Motorists can even use their smart phone in order to add time. Long Branch Business Administrator Howard Woolley has said the charge to park in each space would probably be $1 …

Meters would be placed in West End and east of Ocean Boulevard
The Long Branch Council had many of its parking meter questions answered, as the city prepares to draft an ordinance to add paid parking throughout the city. Parking consultant Gerald Giosa provided more details of the parking plan to the council during its meeting Tuesday night. Giosa said the plan was actually created seven years ago, was tabled, and has now been "updated based on current conditions." While a concrete plan has not yet been formed, the metered areas would likely be located in West End, specifically Brighton Avenue and West End Avenue, and east of Ocean Boulevard. Places such as Beachfront North, Pier Village and the area around Seven Presidents Park would have hundreds of metered parking spaces. The parking meters would…

Mayor says city needs to tap into new revenue stream.
After experimenting with parking meters last summer, city officials are now looking at placing them throughout Long Branch this summer. The Long Branch Council had a lengthy discussion about the possibility during its workshop session on Tuesday night, with Mayor Adam Schneider endorsing the move. "Asbury Park has been so successful with it," Mayor Schneider said. "It's a revenue stream we have to capture." Long Branch Business Administrator Howard Woolley said the 59 meters installed in the lot of the Great Lawn yielded about $12,000 for the city over three weeks. Woolley said the meters were not installed until August, and that the weather was rainy and that the beach was closed for a few days because of Hurricane Irene. "The weekends …

Council approves ordinance at Tuesday night's meeting
The city will install parking meters this summer near the Great Lawn for a 90-day free trial this summer. The Long Branch Council unanimously adopted an ordinance on Tuesday night that will allow the meters to be installed for the 90-day period. After the 90-day period, the city will decide on whether or not it will keep the parking meters. The meters will be installed in the lot of the Great Lawn and will feature 27 numbered spaces on the north side and 32 numbered spaces on the south side. Each space will be striped and numbered and people who wish to park in these spaces will then pay at a meter with either coins, dollars or a credit card.
