NJ Transit Heightens Security in Response to Explosions at Boston Marathon

It will cover emergency transportation, according to Executive Director James Weinstein.

NJ Transit to Offer Cross-Honoring Options During Storm

Cross-honoring lasts from Wednesday, 2 p.m. until the end of the day Thursday.

New Jersey Transit will offer systemwide cross-honoring from Wednesday, March 6 at 2 p.m. until the end of the day Thursday, March 7 due to the coming storm, NJ Transit announced Tuesday afternoon. Customers will be able to use their ticket or pass on an alternate travel mode—rail, bus or light rail. For example, customers who normally take the bus from Rutherford to the Port Authority Bus Terminal may use their bus pass on the train from Rutherford to New York Penn Station, and customers who normally take the bus between Atlantic City and Lindenwold may use the train instead, NJ Transit officials said. Extra Train Service Added for St. Patrick's Day Parade

Trains will shuttle parade goers between stops from Long Branch to Bay Head

  Finding parking in Belmar and Lake Como for Sunday's St. Patrick's Day Parade requires a lot of Irish luck. Demand is high, and NJ Transit encourages parade goers to instead travel by train. NJ Transit is offering extra rail service on the North Jersey Coast Line between Long Branch and Bay Head to accommodate parade goers with trains between 9:46 a.m. to 9:31 p.m. Children 11 and younger travel free on weekends with each fare-paying adult. NJ Transit announced this year, as in years past, the corridor will add rail trips for hour service throughout the day to accommodate demand to Belmar for the St. Patrick's Day Parade festivities. Residents across the state who use New Jersey Transit will have widespread options for travel during the pending winter storm, NJ Transit announced Thursday afternoon, Feb. 7. The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) is taking steps to ensure the roads are safe for travel. A projected winter storm is set to attack much of the area this weekend, with an advisory in effect through Saturday morning. The storm is not expected to be as severe in Atlantic and Cape May counties. Authorities Identify Man Killed by Train Near Aberdeen-Matawan Station

NJ TRANSIT today released the identity of the man struck by a train on Saturday, Jan. 12.

Authorities have identified 41-year-old Miquel O'Neill of Keyport as the man who was struck and killed by a train near the Aberdeen-Matawan Train Station at about 10:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, according to NJ Transit Spokeswoman Nancy Snyder. The initial investigation showed that O'Neill went around the crossing gates on Atlantic Avenue as North Jersey Coast Line train 7277, en route to Long Branch, entered the station, according to NJ Transit.  O'Neill was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries overnight.  The cause of the incident remains under investigation, Snyder said.

Man Dies After Being Struck by Train Near Aberdeen-Matawan Station

A man was struck by a train near the Aberdeen-Matawan Train Station at about 10:30 Saturday night, according to NJ TRANSIT Spokeswoman Courtney Carroll.  The initial investigation shows the man went around the crossing gates on Atlantic Avenue as North Jersey Coast Line train 7277, en route to Long Branch, entered the station, Carroll said.  The adult victim was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, according to Carroll. He succumbed to his injuries overnight.  Information on the identity of the victim was not yet available. Patch will update this article as more information becomes available.
