Previous studies say that Wampum Lake is the most polluted in the county, but so far no one has proved how it got that way.
Eatontown resident Ed Dlugosz believes the Army is responsible for the pollution of Wampum Lake and wants to launch a study to prove it. Dlugosz, a member of the Resident Advisory Board (RAB) for Fort Monmouth's redevelopment and the environmental staff advisory committee of the Fort Monmouth Economic Revitalization Authority (FMERA), addressed the Borough Council on the topic Wednesday after a Patch story revealed that one member of the RAB has the intention of proving the Army has no responsibility for Wampum Lake's pollution. Federal law requires that the Army clean up any environmental messes it makes. Dlugosz, chairman of the Eatontown Environmental Commission, said if Eatontown wants the Army to clean up Wampum Lake it's going to …

Zach Levine looks at one of the favorite pastimes of college students ... fantasy baseball!
Hello again everyone and welcome back to the Monmouth U section here at Patch.com. My name is Zach Levine, and now that the college basketball season is nearly complete, I find myself studying one of my other favorite sports – baseball. I think in college, I played more variations of baseball than any other sport. I would play baseball at a local park, a bunch of us would get together and play stickball, and heck at some times we even played a nine-inning wiffle-ball game. To me, there is no greater sport to play with a group of friends, and one that can be played on hours at a time. One thing about baseball most college students enjoy, however, is the fantasy aspect of the sport. In the past 10 or so years, fantasy baseball has become the…

Head coach Stephanie Gaitley will accept same position at Fordham University
On the heels of one of the team's most successful seasons, Monmouth University has accepted head women's basketball coach Stephanie Gaitley's request to be released early from her contract. Gaitley will be taking over as the head women's basketball coach at Fordham University for the 2011-12 season. According to a release from the university, "Monmouth will make preparations immediately to begin a national search for a new head coach." The release did not state the reason why Gaitley chose to leave Monmouth for the Atlantic 10 school, which is coming off a 12-19 season. Fordham's former head coach Cathy Andruzzi announced in early March that she would not be returning for the 2011-12 season. Gaitley coached the Hawks to a 23-10 season, …

Those EPA- or NJDEP-cited polluters have put bad stuff in the water and no doubt/no question into the Wampum Lake. In our initial analysis we had to limit looking for polluters who put a specific 13 heavy metals--Antimony, Arsenic, Beryllium, Cadmium, Chromium, Copper, Lead, Mercury, Nickel, Selenium, Silver, Thallium, and Zinc--in the Wampum Lake because those were the only toxins that were …   more ›
