'Fair and Square' Hits JCPenney Monmouth Mall

The company's overhaul kicks off Wednesday with a new look and fewer sales. In the meantime, hard-core couponers will be in their glory.

To kick of its Feb. 1 company overhaul, JCPenney has launched one final wacky, confusing sale complete with awkwardly shaped coupons, math you might find on the SAT exam and a paragraph of fine print along the lines of a car leasing agreement. All this to make the point that the current retail sale-every-day paradigm has got to go, which is exactly what Debra Plate of Tinton Falls thinks. "The only time I come here is when I get coupons," she said at the Monmouth Mall store on Monday, two days before the change over. "Let's face it, their prices are high." The Texas-based department store chain announced last week that it is completely revamping its sale schedule, pricing structure and store layout. Endless racks of clothing, and signs …

Road Construction Near Monmouth Mall Six Months Behind Schedule

DOT says utility relocation to blame

Construction at the intersection of Routes 35 and 36 in Eatontown has hit a speed bump. The New Jersey Department of Transportation, which is running the massive project near Monmouth Mall, said this week that work there will take six months longer than originally projected. The project will realign Route 35, reconfigure traffic at its intersection with Route 36 and add sidewalks. According to DOT spokesman Timothy Greeley, the department recently authorized a schedule extension, which will push the project out to January 2013. The DOT reported only minor delays in October due to utility relocation and said its contractor was rearranging the construction schedule to keep the project moving, even as it waited on utility companies to move …

Opening of Joe's Crab Shack Lures 18 to Camp Out Overnight [VIDEO]

The promise of a year's worth of free crab legs to the first 100 customers hooked some to get in line early for the restaurant's Dec. 27 opening.

The lure of free Snow crab legs every month for a year was enough to prompt about 18 seafood lovers to camp out overnight to be among the first in line when the new Joe's Crab Shack opened in Eatontown on Tuesday. "This is our biggest opening," said Sicily McCambridge, a senior field marketing manager for the chain. It's the fourth location in New Jersey, with over 120 restaurants nationwide. According to representatives for the funky nationwide seafood chain, patrons began lining up at about 9 on Monday night to be among the first 100 customers on line when doors officially opened the next day and qualifying for vouchers for free Snow crab legs every month for a year. VIDEO: Gift You Are Most Excited to Give (Spoiler Alert!)

Patch asked shoppers at the Monmouth Mall what gift they were most excited to give this holiday season.

Patch set up camp at the Monmouth Mall in Eatontown last week to see what gifts shoppers are excited to give this holiday season. From DVDs to four-leaf clovers, folks told us about that special present sitting under their tree this year. But not everyone is busy wrapping gifts: One high school student told us that in the current economy, she was too "broke" to shop this year. Regardless, all the shoppers rushing by us at the mall holding bags indicated that not everyone was in that boat this season.

Man Admits to Running Over Gulls in Monmouth Mall Parking Lot

SPCA officers says "Good Samaritans" chased suspect to get his license plate number

A 22-year-old man was convicted of animal cruelty charges for running down seagulls in the Monmouth Mall parking lot in October. Jeffrey Karczewski of Hamilton, NJ plead guilty to the charges on Friday and was fined $750 by an Eatontown judge, according to an article in NJ.com. Victor "Buddy" Amato, chief humane law enforcement officer for the Monmouth County SPCA, told Patch that witnesses saw Karczewski circling a flock of seagulls in the parking lot near Macy's and "lining them up before he blew right through them (in his car)." One bird was killed and a few others were injured, said Amato. The witnesses, a boyfriend and girlfriend, followed the suspect to the Doubletree Hotel on Hope Road and "cornered him" in the parking lot to get …
