Eatontown No Longer Interested in Acquiring Fort Monmouth's Mallette Hall

Mayor Gerald Tarantolo "admits defeat" in attempt to acquire building as gift from FMERA

Eatontown is no longer pursuing the acquisition, renovation or purchase of Mallette Hall on the Fort Monmouth property. Eatontown Mayor Gerald Tarantolo had been pushing for Mallette Hall to be given to the borough as a gift for $1 from Fort Monmouth Economic Revitalization Authority (FMERA) and be used as the borough hall. On Wednesday night, Mayor Tarantolo officially ended his pursuit of the acquisition of the building. "To facilitate discussion tonight, I am admitting defeat in obtaining Mallette Hall as a gift and certainly do not recommend outright purchase," Mayor Tarantolo said in a prepared statement. "I was told by FMERA more recently that I should not be disappointed if the acquisition by gift is denied. The option to purchase…

Mayor Questions Possible Construction of County DPW in Eatontown

County officials will attend next Eatontown Council meeting

Eatontown Mayor Gerald Tarantolo and other members of the Eatontown Council have some questions for county officials who are planning to build a satellite Monmouth County DPW facility at a Fort Monmouth property in Eatontown. The board of the Fort Monmouth Economic Revitalization Authority moved last week to approve a one year lease, with a six month extension option, for the motor pool property of former Fort Monmouth from the Army, with the intent that it will then lease the property to the county for a new home for its highway division. "My concern is that it is a change to FMERA's original plan," Mayor Tarantolo said at this week's Eatontown Council meeting. Mayor Tarantolo said the move is a change from the FMERPA reuse plan which …

"Freeholder Lillian Burry has said the site will mainly be used to store salt and road materials and that it will not see heavy traffic. She also said that Eatontown will benefit from the regional location by use of the truck wash (something Eatontown doesn't have), and will be able to forgo it's annual order of salt and can instead use the salt the county purchases, paying for only what …   more ›

Husky Brook Park Back on the Eatontown Council Table

Mayor and council agreed to consider adding some additional elements to the Grant Avenue park.

Like Lazarus rising from the dead, the issue of whether to add improvements to the Husky Brook Park project in Eatontown arose at the council's Feb. 1 workshop meeting. "I came here tonight with my blood pressure medicine," joked Council President Anthony Talerico about the contentious nature of the park's development among the mayor and council over the last few years. Although the council voted in April to go forward with the least expensive concept plans to develop the property at the intersection of Route 36 and Grant Avenue, Mayor Gerald Tarantolo proposed last week that officials consider adding a few more elements to the design. In particular, the mayor wanted the council to authorize the borough engineer to determine if three …
