West End Synagogue Application Conclusion Pushed Back Another Month

Application will likely be heard at June 10 meeting

Eager Long Branch residents and business owners will have to wait another month to hear the conclusion on Chabad of the Shore's application before the Long Branch Zoning Board of Adjustment. The board was originally scheduled to hear final testimony and reach a decision on the application tonight, but a note on the agenda states that Chabad of the Shore "has made a request to be heard at the June 10, 2013 meeting." Chabad wishes to build a two-story building that contains a 200-seat sanctuary, a 200-person capacity multipurpose room with a kitchen on the second floor, and five classrooms, office space and a room for religious services on the second floor. A large, 51-space parking lot in the rear of the property also is included in the …

Cranky - I understand your comment about DJ. But allowing it to go unchecked might allow someone else to see it and mistake it as fact because "it's on a news site." Alica78 >> "not sending their kids to the schools, but taking over the school for themselves. They don't play with us and they never will. They take over areas and don't include us." Final Testimony in West End Synagogue Application to be Heard Tonight

Board could reach decision on application

After months of testimony, the final arguments will be heard tonight in the West End synagogue application before the Long Branch Zoning Board of Adjustment. Chabad of the Shore finished its testimony on Jan. 14 and now the attorney representing several West End business owners will cross-examine Chabad's planner, Richard Preiss. The board could vote on the application tonight, depending on how much time is spent on testimony, and if enough members are present to render a decision. Chabad wishes to build a two-story building that contains a 200-seat sanctuary, a 200-person capacity multipurpose room with a kitchen on the second floor, and five classrooms, office space and a room for religious services on the second floor. A large, 51-space…

West End Synagogue Application Continues With No Resolution

Testimony should be completed at next meeting

The Long Branch Zoning Board of Adjustment continued to hear testimony for Chabad of Shore's application to build a synagogue and other space in West End on Monday night. The application was heard for the first time since September, but no decision was made by the board, as there are still questions from the public, the attorney who is representing the West End business owners and the board. The final testimony is expected to be made at the next zoning board meeting on Jan. 28, and it is possible the board could vote on the application, which was first heard on June 11. Chabad wishes to build a two-story building that contains a 200-seat sanctuary, a 200-person capacity multipurpose room with a kitchen on the second floor, and five …

No Decision on West End Synagogue Until 2013

Long Branch Zoning Board of Adjustment hears more testimony from rabbi

The public will have until next year to see the resolution of Chabad of the Shore's application to build a large synagogue and other space in West End. During Monday night's hearing on the application, Long Branch Zoning Board of Adjustment Chairwoman Terry Janeczek said the next time available to hear testimony would be January. Chabad wishes to build a 2-story building that contains a 200-seat sanctuary, a 200-person capacity multipurpose room with a kitchen on the second floor; and a five classrooms, office space and a room for religious services on the second floor. The plan would include the demolition of a old movie theater on Ocean Avenue and two stores north of the structure. A synagogue is not a permitted use in the commercial …

why don't we consider a use that is going to benefit ALL of the residents of LB, not a select few, many of whom do not even reside here year round. as a resident of West End I am pretty aware of who patronizes the existing businesses (which are predominantly bars and restaurants) and I don't notice the "summer NY crowd" spending money at a good number of these establishments. I will do my share …   more ›
