Long Branch run will benefit fallen police officers
Remembering those who have made the ultimate sacrifice to protect their communities does not go unnoticed in Long Branch. The memory of fallen Long Branch Police officers Ptl. Herman Emmons, Ptl. William Richards and Sgt. Patrick King will be preserved on Saturday, April 7 at the 22nd annual Celtic 5K Run. The Jersey Shore Running Club hosts the run which takes place on the Long Branch promenade, boardwalk and Great Lawn. Our hope is that the event have a large turnout from the community to join us in remembering all of Long Branch's fallen officers," Race Director Philip J. Hinck said. Excel Travel Ocean Avenue Mile slated for Sept. 15
A new race is coming to Long Branch this summer, with the purpose of raising funds for charity and bring back the popularity of the street mile. Long Branch will host the first annual Excel Travel Ocean Avenue Mile on Sept. 15. The race will raise money for two charities, Kick Cancer Overboard and The Boomer Esiason Foundation. Registration for the run is currently open, and there will be a kick-off party at Charley’s Ocean Grill on March 15, where members of the community can come and find out more about the event and register. Registration for the race will cost $25. The race has a cap of 1,000 participants and organizers say they expect to fill all the spots quickly. Normally when people wear their underwear outside their clothing, it could mean one of many things. Maybe it’s opposite day, maybe you are a superhero, maybe you got dressed in the dark, and maybe you are Lady Gaga. However on Saturday morning, hundreds of people donned their underwear outside their clothing for a great cause. At 8 a.m. on Saturday morning, the second annual Undy 5000 5k Run was held along the boardwalk in Long Branch. The race was organized by the Colon Cancer Alliance, a national patient advocacy organization working to end colon cancer. Locally, a portion of the proceeds from this race went to the Riverview Medical Center. Since it was a race to support colon cancer, organizers thought it would be fun to have the …
