Man Who Robbed Long Branch Sovereign Bank Sought by Police

Man robbed bank on Monday afternoon

The Long Branch Police are searching for the man who robbed the Sovereign Bank in Long Branch on Monday afternoon, Acting Prosecutor Christopher J. Gramiccioni said in a press release. "The suspect, who smelled of paint fumes, walked into the Sovereign Bank branch located at 600 Broadway in Long Branch at 5:59 p.m. Monday demanding cash from a teller before fleeing the scene on foot," the release states. "The suspect spoke English with a Spanish accent." The suspect is described as a Hispanic male with an olive complexion, approximately 5'10" tall, weighing between 180 lbs. and 200 lbs. with a full black beard, wide nose and full lips, the release states. Long Branch Sovereign Bank Robbed Monday Afternoon

The Sovereign Bank at 600 Broadway in Long Branch was robbed late Monday afternoon, according to Long Branch Police Capt. Jason Roebuck. The Long Branch Police are searching for a suspect who reportedly fled on foot after taking an unknown amount of money from the bank. Roebuck said there were no injuries reported during the robbery. This is a breaking news story and it will be updated as soon as more information becomes available.

Long Branch Resident Arrested For Allegedly Stabbing Man

Arrest stems from Feb. 25 incident

A Long Branch resident has been arrested and charged with attempted murder for stabbing another man during an incident that occurred in the city in the early morning hours of Feb. 25. On February 28th, 2013  Detectives Todd Coleman and Charles Simonelli of the Long Branch Police Department with assistance from the US Marshal’s Office arrested Daniel Julio Jr., 29, of Brinley St., on Feb. 28, according to Long Branch Police Capt. Jason Roebuck. Julio Jr. was arrested at the Chrystal Motor Lodge in Eatontown, Roebuck said. The victim's name was not released. Juliio Jr. was also charged with unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose.   He was transported to the Monmouth County Correctional Institution on…

State Police Investigating Early Morning Long Branch Boat Fires

The New Jersey State Police are investigating what caused six boats to catch on fire early this morning in Long Branch. Long Branch Police Capt. Jason Roebuck the incident occurred around 3 a.m. on Thursday morning at Patten Point Yacht Club on the Shrewsbury River. Capt. Roebuck said injuries were reported and that the State Police Marine Unit will be the investigating agency.

Police: Long Branch High School Student Videotaped Girl Getting Undressed in Locker Room

Student charged with invasion of privacy

A Long Branch High School student has been charged with invasion of privacy for allegedly videotaping a female student who was getting undressed in the school's locker room. Tyler Gabriel, 18, of Washington St. was charged on Monday, Jan. 28, and was released on a summons, according to Long Branch Police Capt. Jason Roebuck. Roebuck said the Long Branch Police Department was contacted by the Long Branch High School "in regards to an apparent invasion of privacy that occurred in the past on the school grounds." Roebuck said four students were brought to the Long Branch Police Department, but the investigation revealed that only Gabriel was responsible for videotaping the girl. UPDATE: 79-Year-Old Woman Killed in Early Morning Fire in Long Branch

Authorities have not yet released identity of resident

A fire broke out at a Long Branch home early Monday morning, killing a 79-year-old woman inside. The fire was reported at 2:56 a.m. at 11 Howland Ave., and was extinguished in the next few hours. Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office Public Information Officer Charles Webster said an autopsy will be performed on the woman today to determine her cause of death. Webster said the identity of the woman has not yet been released, as the next of kin has not been notified. Webster said the cause and origin of the fire have also not yet been released. He said a firefighter suffered a minor injury while battling the blaze, but refused medical treatment. A neighbor also was affected by smoke inhalation, but the resident also refused medical treatment…

Long Branch Police: Man Pistol-Whipped, Robbed by 5 Individuals

Five individuals have been arrested and are facing numerous charges for allegedly beating and robbing a man early Saturday morning. Long Branch Police Capt. Jason Roebuck said a 33-year-old Hispanic male was walking on North Fifth Avenue just after midnight on Jan. 19 and was confronted by a group of young black males. "An altercation ensued, and victim was assaulted and robbed," Roebuck said in a release. "A handgun was used to pistol whip the victim in the assault, and then subsequently fired at the victim as he left the scene and called the police." Man Charged in Stabbing Death of Long Branch Resident

A man has been charged with stabbing and murdering a Long Branch resident on Jan. 3. Victor Garzon-Alvarez, also known as Victor Sanchez-Gonzalez, whose last known address was 326 Willow Avenue in Long Branch, was charged Wednesday night with first degree Murder, fourth degree unlawful possession of a weapon and third degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. According to a release from the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office, the Long Branch Police responded to a basement apartment at 326 Willow Avenue at about 4:30 p.m. after receiving a call from one of the tenants about an unknown, deceased male, who was located inside the dwelling. Prosecutor Investigating Potential Homicide at Long Branch Apartment

Incident occurred on Willow Avenue on Jan. 3

The Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office and Long Branch police are investigating a possible homicide that occurred on Willow Avenue last week. County Director of Investigations Marc Limieux said police received a 911 call at 4:20 p.m. Jan. 3 for a report of an unresponsive male in the basement apartment of 326 Willow Ave. Lemieux said the address is one large home with multiple apartments. The victim was later identified as Manuel Vilaseca Cortez, a 39-year-old male from Long Branch. Limieux said Cortez did not live at 326 Willow Ave. He said the case is being "investigated as a homicide," but that no cause of death is available at this time and no suspects have identified. UPDATE: Police, Coast Guard Save Surfer in Distress off Long Branch Coast

Man was caught in rough seas off Seven Presidents Beach

A surfer who was in distress off the Long Branch coast has been rescued by emergency crews on Friday. The Long Branch Police, U.S. Coast Guard and State Police were dispatched to Seven Presidents Beach just before 1 p.m. after the male surfer was spotted waving for help in the water. Long Branch Police Capt. Jason Roebuck said the man was rescued by a New Jersey State Police helicopter. The U.S. Coast Guard also sent a boat from the Manasquan Inlet Station and Monmouth County Aviation units were called to scene. The surfer was reportedly 150 yards out in rough water with 8-9 foot waves. This is a breaking news story and it will be updated when more information becomes available.
