Michael Wells Remembered as "Nice Guy" in Hometown, Fishing Community

From the bait and tackle shop to the Norma K III to the Gambler, the folks in Point Beach's fishing community are shocked and saddened by the sudden death of Michael M. Wells. Brian Stensland, owner of Fishermen's Supply, Point Beach, said Wells, an avid recreational fisherman and regular customer, was the kind of guy who everyone liked. "I don't know anyone, including me, who had anything bad to say about him," said Stensland, at his store on Thursday afternoon. Wells' body was found in the backyard of a Long Branch home on Wednesday morning. Prosecutor's Office: Man Found In Long Branch Backyard Died From Gunshot Wound

Prosecutor's office investigating death as a homicide

An autopsy performed on the Point Pleasant man found dead in a Long Branch backyard on Wednesday has revealed that he died of a gunshot wound, according to Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office Public Information Officer Charlie Webster. Webster said the death of Michael Wells, 56, is being investigated as a homicide. Webster said no arrests have been made in connection with Wells' death as of 3:15 p.m. on Thursday. Wells was an employee of Dutch Prime Foods, 235 West Ave., Long Branch, which is about a block away from the backyard at 215 Cleveland Ave. where his body was found. The homeowner of 215 Cleveland Ave. reportedly discovered Wells body on Wednesday morning and called police at 7:30 a.m. Wells was pronounced dead at 8:15 a.m., …

Long Branch Man Charged in September Homicide

Shooting occurred outside Asbury Park deli

A Long Branch man was charged Wednesday with homicide and possession of a weapon in connection with a Sept. 1, 2012 shooting outside an Asbury Park deli, Acting Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher J. Gramiccioni announced. Ronald T. Daniels Jr., 23, was charged Wednesday with homicide and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose following a joint investigation by the Asbury Park Police Department and Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office after Jerome Wright was shot and killed outside the Atkins Deli on Atkins Avenue in Asbury Park. Daniels is being held in the Burlington County Detention Center, Mount Holly, on $2 million bail with no 10 percent option, as set by Monmouth County Superior Court Judge Richard W. Prosecutor Investigating Potential Homicide at Long Branch Apartment

Incident occurred on Willow Avenue on Jan. 3

The Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office and Long Branch police are investigating a possible homicide that occurred on Willow Avenue last week. County Director of Investigations Marc Limieux said police received a 911 call at 4:20 p.m. Jan. 3 for a report of an unresponsive male in the basement apartment of 326 Willow Ave. Lemieux said the address is one large home with multiple apartments. The victim was later identified as Manuel Vilaseca Cortez, a 39-year-old male from Long Branch. Limieux said Cortez did not live at 326 Willow Ave. He said the case is being "investigated as a homicide," but that no cause of death is available at this time and no suspects have identified.
