Long Branch High School's Academic Performance Below State, Peer Averages

The New Jersey Department of Education recently released school performance reports.

Long Branch High School received low marks on academic achievement compared to its peers and state averages according to data released by the New Jersey Department of Education (NJDOE) last week. The state's new performance reports, which replace the school report cards issued in past years, rates schools on standardized test results, college and career readiness and student growth at the middle school level.  The performance report looks at a school's ranking compared to the rest of the state and to a peer group with a similar demographic. Long Branch High School's peers included Weehawken High School, Pinelands Regional, South Amboy High School Trenton Central High School West among others. Long Branch High School was outperformed by 83 …

But yet no one here blames the students? I am a student at LBHS who has pushed myself to my limit, and achieved success. I consistently get Advanced Proficient or even perfect scores on the NJ PASS, and this year the HSPA, and am in the top 4% of my class. Now, I sorta kinda crumble under pressure, so I didn't do too well on my SAT's the first time (1710). However, it is in my humble opinion that…   more ›

Long Branch Athlete of the Week: Jake George

George headed to Cornell for wrestling this fall

In the first installment of Patch's new Athlete of the Week feature, Long Branch High School's Jake George is featured. George is headed to Cornell to wrestle this fall and signed his national letter of intent earlier this month. Each week we will ask our athlete of the week three questions and print their answers verbatim. Why did you choose the college you did? I think Cornell has a great balance, both academically and athletically. Also, my brother going there also altered my decision, somewhat, but I just think it's a great place. What has been your best sports experience at Long Branch High School so far? I've had a lot of great experiences playing sports, but I think my most memorable was my freshman year when we won the group title …

Police: Long Branch High School Student Videotaped Girl Getting Undressed in Locker Room

Student charged with invasion of privacy

A Long Branch High School student has been charged with invasion of privacy for allegedly videotaping a female student who was getting undressed in the school's locker room. Tyler Gabriel, 18, of Washington St. was charged on Monday, Jan. 28, and was released on a summons, according to Long Branch Police Capt. Jason Roebuck. Roebuck said the Long Branch Police Department was contacted by the Long Branch High School "in regards to an apparent invasion of privacy that occurred in the past on the school grounds." Roebuck said four students were brought to the Long Branch Police Department, but the investigation revealed that only Gabriel was responsible for videotaping the girl. It's so uplifting to see children getting involved in the Performing Arts. There recently was something on PBS on NOVA (I think) about the brain and how music is quite helpful in developing the brain. Congratulations to all the children for their participation.   more ›

PHOTOS: Green Wave Wins Wrestling Tournament at MSG

Grapple at the Garden features top teams and individuals

For high school wrestlers in New Jersey the ultimate individual goal is always to make it to Boardwalk Hall for the state championship tournament.  The Wrestlers Many of the same wrestlers that have finished their careers on the podium in Atlantic City have gone on to make a name for themselves at the college level. On Sunday some of the most decorated athletes in Garden State history found themselves in a place they never expected to compete as they took part in the Grapple at the Garden at Madison Square Garden.  In its illustrious history of hosting some of the biggest sporting events ever Sunday was the first time collegiate wrestling was held at the place known as the World's Most Famous Arena. PHOTOS: Columbus Day Parade Shines Through

The annual parade down Broadway saw wet weather.

If you missed the annual Columbus Day parade in Long Branch yesterday, you may have avoided getting your feet wet, but you missed out on smiling faces and about two pounds of candy per parade goer. Cold temps and rainy skies kept away the crowds along Broadway, but those who toughed it out were treated to bag pipers, fire engines, floats, twirlers and high school bands, all with a spirit that couldn't be dampened by the weather. Patch was there and we now have 158 Tootsie Rolls and 30 Blow Pops to prove it. Next year we'll be more like the little girl in front of Dunkin' Donuts, who brought along her fishing net to catch her loot.

Gallery: Long Branch High School Graduation

Long Branch seniors graduated on June 15

The seniors were there for one another from their first day of kindergarten, and in the blink of an eye, they found themselves walking their final steps as Long Branch High School students. The Class of 2012 made an impact on the school when they entered into the high school as the first class to comply with the district’s Uniformity of Dress policy. Now the entire LB district is following the policy. The seniors filled the hallways in anticipation of their Graduation on Friday June 15th at the Long Branch Bresett Stadium. The stadium was jam-packed with family members smiling ear to ear. This was the moment that the seniors have anxiously awaited, dreamed about daily, and worked so diligently towards for the past thirteen years.  “Find …
