Robin Hood Relief Fund Grant Helps Hurricane Sandy-Damaged Long Branch Store Rebuild

$10,000 grant will allow Family & Children’s Service (FCS) Thrift Boutique to reopen Feb. 19.

Nearly three months after Hurricane Sandy devastated the Family & Children’s Service (FCS) Thrift Boutique in Long Branch, forcing it to close its doors and causing significant revenue loss for the century-old nonprofit; the store is set to reopen to the public Tuesday, Feb. 19.  The agency plans a special ticketed Preview Event, Friday, Feb. 15 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. to give supporters a first look at the new store, which has been completely restored and refurbished thanks to a generous grant from the Robin Hood Relief Fund and help from dozens of area organizations and businesses. “Family & Children’s Service’s mission is to serve people at vulnerable times in their lives through education, intervention, care and counseling,” says Debbie …

Mike's West End Deli Closing Its Doors Jan. 1

Ocean Avenue deli has been open for 15 years

Mike's West End Deli, a staple of West End, will close its doors on Jan. 1, 2013. The family-owned deli at 618 Ocean Ave. has been open for 15 years and has been serving arguably the best pork roll egg and cheese in the city, but will close due to "financial reasons," according to owner Mike Ioannides. "I accept it, but it has been hard especially with our customers," Ioannides said. Ioannides said many of his employees have been working at the deli since before he took over ownership eight years ago. He said he does not have an immediate plans to start a new business elsewhere but said it is not out of the question for the future. Long Branch Businesses: Claim Your Listing on Patch

Business owners are encouraged to claim listings in Patch Places to better promote their business and inform Long Branch Patch readers

  When Long Branch Patch launched in December 2010, editors and freelancers ventured to local businesses in order to collect information for our directory. Now, a year later, Patch Places is a spot where users can find descriptions, hours, accepted payment methods, and much more for spots around town. All users can add events taking place at local spots, can rate the business on a scale of one to five stars, and can add a review. But owners of local businesses get extra bonuses when they claim a listing. Owners or managers should search for their business listing and select "claim you listing" in order to make updates to the page.
