It was a service fit for a hero – filled with wailing bagpipes, local dignitaries and a dramatic helicopter flyover –but the focus was on the bravery of everyday people that walk among us. “Arthur was an ordinary person … looking to do the right thing,” said Wayside Fire Company Capt. Thomas Wieczerzak of Arthur Barry, who was killed on Sept. 11, 2001 in the line of duty as a New York City Firefighter. But Barry’s heroism, by simply doing his job, was a theme throughout Saturday’s 9/11 service at the Tinton Falls firehouse to dedicate a memorial honoring the 343 firefighters who lost their lives that day. Under the banner of the American flag hanging high overhead, suspended between two ladder trucks, firefighters and first responders were…

A day of riding, fun and music on Saturday for a great cause - raising money for an injured firefighter.
Over 300 firefighters and friends from departments across central New Jersey participated in a Poker Run event on Saturday to raise money for Jason Fazio, an Asbury Park firefighter who was critically injured while putting out a fire. The motorcyclists stopped at five different fire departments, including Eatontown, along the scenic ride from Oakhurst to Asbury Park. At each stop participants picked up a playing card, and those who had the best poker hand at the end won prizes.

Local firefighters organize fundraiser for injured Asbury Park firefighter Jason Fazio
Firefighter fireground operations training was conducted Saturday for 500 members of more than 80 fire companies, from five states, in what became a significant fundraiser for injured Asbury Park firefighter Jason Fazio at Monmouth University. He was seriously injured with burns and fractures as a result of the incident. What had begun as a somewhat routine training session for 40 to 60 potential attendees, important but quite local in attendance, became an …

Over 400 firefighters from 80 fire departments will be in attendance
After Asbury Park firefighter Jason Fazio was injured while battling a blaze last month, the community and his fellow firefighters rallied around him. Tomorrow, Feb. 12, the West Long Branch Fire Department in coordination with Asbury Park Professional Firefighters Local 384 will host a benefit for Fazio at Anacon Hall at Monmouth University. Fazio is still in critical condition at St. Barnabas Burn Center in Livingston after sustaining injuries on Jan. 10, while fighting a fire on Main Street in Asbury Park. Fazio, a 17-year veteran of the Asbury Park Fire Department, was looking for victims when he was caught in a flashover which forced him to save himself by jumping out a second-floor window. Fazio suffered burns and fractures as a …
