George headed to Cornell for wrestling this fall

In the first installment of Patch's new Athlete of the Week feature, Long Branch High School's Jake George is featured. George is headed to Cornell to wrestle this fall and signed his national letter of intent earlier this month. Each week we will ask our athlete of the week three questions and print their answers verbatim. Why did you choose the college you did? I think Cornell has a great balance, both academically and athletically. Also, my brother going there also altered my decision, somewhat, but I just think it's a great place. What has been your best sports experience at Long Branch High School so far? I've had a lot of great experiences playing sports, but I think my most memorable was my freshman year when we won the group title …

Three Long Branch Senior Athletes Sign Division 1 Letters

Seniors will be headed to Wake Forest, Cornell and Davidson for athletics

Three of Long Branch High School's senior athletes have signed their letters of intent and will be playing sports for three Division 1 colleges. Jake George will be wrestling for Cornell University, Chris Pappayliou will be attending Wake Forest University for track and field and his brother Nicholas Pappayliou will be wrestling for Davidson College in the fall. All three played track and field, and wrestled throughout their high school careers and have been members of the National Honor Society at Long Branch High School. Nick and Chris were also 3-year starters on the school's football team and were named to Academic All-Shore team. Chris said he will be competing in javelin at Wake Forest.
