Florence Twp. – Shore Regional’s bid to win back-to-back Central Jersey Group I titles came to end on Saturday as it lost to Florence, 23-0, in the in the NJSIAA sectional playoffs. Down 7-0 at halftime, the Flashes (8-1) limited the Blue Devils to just two yards of total offense and one first down in the second half to advance to the Central Jersey Group I semifinals where they will now face Dunellen on Nov. 18. With thoughts of defending its state title in the back of its minds, Shore Regional kept the dream alive as it hung on to defeat Highland Park, 26-14, in a nonconference game at Robert E. Feeney Field on Friday night. Although it wasn’t always pretty, on this night the Blue Devil’s best defense was their offense as they successfully kept the ball out of the hands of the Owl’s “big play offense” by controlling the ball for majority of the second half. “We did a good job of controlling the clock late in the game,” Shore head coach Mark Costantino said. “That’s always what we want to do.
