Wednesday, three grants totalling more than $9.2 million were approved by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to help cover the cost of public assistance and debris removal related to Hurricane Sandy. The funding will be used to reimburse a significant percentage of costs incurred by Belmar and Marlboro Township as well as the New Jersey Office of Emergency Management. According to a release from Sen. Frank Lautenberg's office Wednesday afternoon, Belmar will receive $4,062,468 for emergency debris removal to clear roadways for emergency vehicles in the aftermath of Sandy. Extension announced by New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs.
New charities and established organizations raising money for Hurricane Sandy relief and required to register under the state's Charities Registration and Investigation Act have been granted a filing deadline extension, the New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs announced Thursday. The extension is for charities, fundraisers, and fund-raising organizations who are subject to the registration and reporting requirements of the CRI Act and located in Sandy-affected areas, according to a release. Those organizations with filings due between Oct. 27 and Jan. 31, 2013, have been granted an extension to Feb. 1, 2013. Pier Village restaurant reopens today
Avenue, one of Pier Village's three oceanfront restaurants that was damaged during Hurricane Sandy, will be reopening today and will be donating 10 percent of its sales to Jersey Shore charities through the end of the year. The restaurant, located at 23 Ocean Avenue, sustained over $100,000 in damage from Hurricane Sandy last month after high winds and water ripped through the building’s electrical, plumbing and HVAC systems, which are located on the bottom of the restaurant. Seabrook residents gather 170 toiletry bags
Hurricane Sandy has caused countless numbers of people and organizations to band together and do their part to help those in need. A group of seniors from Seabrook retirement community in Tinton Falls have added themselves to that list by gather 170 bags of toiletries for the hurricane victims. The residents organized a grassroots collection drive at the campus where for 10 days residents were encouraged to donate toothbrushes, toothpaste, bars of soap, small bottles of shampoo, deodorant and other items. Over 300 toothbrushes, 500 tubes of toothpaste, 500 small bars of soap, small bottles of shampoo, deoderant and handkerchief packages have been gathered. These items were delivered to the organization Bridges at the Shore on Wednesday. …

Donations will be accepted by school
Shore Regional High School is doing its part to help the families affected by Hurricane Sandy. The school will be holding a pasta dinner for the community and sending districts on Tuesday, Nov. 20, from 5 p.m. through 8 p.m. There is no charge for the event, but donations will be accepted for those that can and wish to donate. All proceeds will go to the Shore Regional High School Hurricane Relief Fund. A Long Branch resident and his friends are doing everything they can to help those who have been impacted by Hurricane Sandy. Ben Woolley, 30, has helped organize a walk/5K that will raise money and collect goods for Hurricane Sandy victims. "I know several people in Long Branch who lost everything, so it will be nice to do something to help them," Woolley said. "I've been wanting to do something like this ever since the fire in West End earlier this year."
