Midwinter Doldrums? Girl Scout Cookie Sale to the Rescue

The annual cookie sale begins Friday, Jan. 18

Some good news in the heart of winter in the Long Branch-Eatontown area: Friday (Jan. 18) marks the beginning of the annual Girl Scout Cookies sale. Girl Scouts will begin selling Thin Mints, Caramel deLites, Shortbreads, Peanut Butter Patties, Lemonades, Thanks-A-Lots and Peanut Butter Sandwiches. All revenue from cookie sales goes directly to local troops, helping them raise money for special activities, field trips and service products. Local troop leaders also integrate the cookie sale program into teaching girls goal-setting, decision-making, money management, people skills and ethics. Long Branch Girl Scout Among Top Cookie Sellers on Shore

  Thin Mints, Samoas and Tagalongs; everybody has their favorite Girl Scout cookie. If you live in the area, there's a good chance you bought your Girl Scout cookies from Arianna Lynch of Troop 1720 in Long Branch. Ariana sold 1,439 boxes this year and is being honored by Girl Scouts of the Jersey Shore. Ariana and five other Girl Scouts received recognition for their skills in "financial literacy and entrepreneurship," and were presented with two tickets to The B.I.G. Celebration on June 23rd at Liberty State Park, according to a release from the Girl Scouts of the Jersey Shore. Girl Scouts Asking for New Members for Fall

Today's scouts learn leadership and financial skills, in addition to selling cookies and having fun

Girls Scout troops all over the Jersey Shore region are recruiting now for new members for the fall. If you think Girl Scouts spend all their time doing arts and crafts and selling cookies, you're a bit mistaken. Sure, that's part of it. But today's scouts also learn leadership and financial skills and enjoy activites ranging from building robots to boating, horseback riding, camping, going on field trips and doing community service projects. The Girl Scouts of the Jersey Shore registration form says today's girl scouts are "ready to make a difference and to be leaders.
