Application will likely be heard at June 10 meeting
Eager Long Branch residents and business owners will have to wait another month to hear the conclusion on Chabad of the Shore's application before the Long Branch Zoning Board of Adjustment. The board was originally scheduled to hear final testimony and reach a decision on the application tonight, but a note on the agenda states that Chabad of the Shore "has made a request to be heard at the June 10, 2013 meeting." Chabad wishes to build a two-story building that contains a 200-seat sanctuary, a 200-person capacity multipurpose room with a kitchen on the second floor, and five classrooms, office space and a room for religious services on the second floor. A large, 51-space parking lot in the rear of the property also is included in the …

Application will be concluded in May, board chair says.
Chabad of the Shore's application to build a synagogue in West End was scheduled to conclude on Monday night, but the Long Branch Zoning Board of Adjustment decided to finish the hearing at a future meeting. The final testimony was given on Monday night and the public started commenting, but the board usually does not let its meetings go later than 10 p.m., so the meeting was adjourned shortly after. "We will not conclude this tonight," Long Branch Zoning Board Chairwoman Terry Janeczek said. Janeczek said the earliest the application can be heard by the board is Monday, May 13, at 7 p.m., where it will be the lone agenda item. The public comments will continue and Chabad of the Shore's land-use attorney Robert Tripp and West End Business …

Board could reach decision on application
After months of testimony, the final arguments will be heard tonight in the West End synagogue application before the Long Branch Zoning Board of Adjustment. Chabad of the Shore finished its testimony on Jan. 14 and now the attorney representing several West End business owners will cross-examine Chabad's planner, Richard Preiss. The board could vote on the application tonight, depending on how much time is spent on testimony, and if enough members are present to render a decision. Chabad wishes to build a two-story building that contains a 200-seat sanctuary, a 200-person capacity multipurpose room with a kitchen on the second floor, and five classrooms, office space and a room for religious services on the second floor. A large, 51-space…

Testimony should be completed at next meeting
The Long Branch Zoning Board of Adjustment continued to hear testimony for Chabad of Shore's application to build a synagogue and other space in West End on Monday night. The application was heard for the first time since September, but no decision was made by the board, as there are still questions from the public, the attorney who is representing the West End business owners and the board. The final testimony is expected to be made at the next zoning board meeting on Jan. 28, and it is possible the board could vote on the application, which was first heard on June 11. Chabad wishes to build a two-story building that contains a 200-seat sanctuary, a 200-person capacity multipurpose room with a kitchen on the second floor, and five …

Hearing will continue Sept. 24
The Long Branch Zoning Board of Adjustment heard more testimony on Monday night, but did not reach a decision on a proposed plan to build a synagogue in West End. Chabad of the Shore wishes to build a 2-story building that contains a 200-seat sanctuary, a 200-person capacity multipurpose room with a kitchen on the second floor; and a five classrooms, office space and a room for religious services on the second floor. The plan would include the demolition of a old movie theater on Ocean Avenue and two stores north of the structure. A synagogue is not a permitted use in the commercial zone, so Chabad of the Shore is looking to obtain a use variance to use the site and also obtain some minor bulk variances for parking and setbacks. Applicant describes site plan, use of building
Chabad of the Shore, a non-profit Jewish organization, presented its application to demolish an old movie theater located in West End and build a synagogue and other space in its place during Monday night's Long Branch Zoning Board meeting. A decision was not reached in the case, but the public got its first chance to hear and see the proposed plan. A synagogue is not a permitted use in the commercial zone, so Chabad of the Shore is looking to obtain a use variance to use the site and also obtain some minor bulk variances for parking and setbacks. Rabbi Leibel Shapiro, of Chabad of the Shore, and the group's land-use attorney Robert Tripp, described many of the details of the project which would include the demolition of the theater on …
