West End School students sign beam that will be used in construction of new George L. Catrambone School
Students from Long Branch's West End School were on hand Thursday morning to show how far construction of the district's newest school, the George L. Catrambone School, has progressed since workers broke ground on the project last September. The students signed a piece of metal and a beam that will be used in the construction of the school, during a ceremony held at West End School. Charles Caramanna of GreyHawk North America LLC, the construction manager for the Catrambone School, said the beam will be one of the last pieces of structural steel incorporated into the new building. The Catrambone School will be a 109,000 square-foot, two-story facility designed to educate approximately 800 students in pre-kindergarten through fifth grades. …

School is first of the 2011 Capital Portfolio to enter the construction phase
Governor Chris Christie was on hand to commend the Long Branch School District and the city for groundbreaking of the George L. Catrambone School on Monday morning. The school is the first of the School Development Authority's (SDA) 2011 Capital Portfolio to enter the construction phase, with site work already completed. "With today's groundbreaking, this Administration is demonstrating its firm commitment to move forward with the construction of efficient and cost-effective school facilities that provide our students with modern and efficient learning environments," Christie said today. Construction should begin in August
The construction of the Long Branch School District's newest school should begin this August. The George L. Catrambone School will be the district's first school construction project since the new Long Branch High School was built in 2007. In August 2009, education officials demolished the old Elberon Elementary School to make way for the Catrambone School, which will be larger and built on the same site. The Elberon Elementary School was located at 240 Park Ave. and was built in 1969. The school was selected for advancement as part of the 2011 Capital Project Portfolio, and the 109,000 square-foot, partial two-story building will be constructed on a 9.7 acre site and will accommodate approximately 800 students in pre-kindergarten …

I agree with the sentiments, though I'd have turned different phrases. I hope for better in the future, but I think most of the same people - or their chosen successors - are still running things. The question remains: when will LB confront its educational failures? I've yet to hear anyone even acknowledge there are any problems. Money? It costs no more to have a proper curriculum.
