West Long Branch Police: Car Thefts on Rise

Police warn residents to lock their car doors

  The West Long Branch Police are warning residents of a recent increase in car thefts over the last few weeks in nearby communities. The Deal Police Department issued a Code Red alert on Monday telling residents that a number of vehicles in Deal, Interlaken and Loch Arbour have been stolen. The vehicles were stolen from residents' driveways and were left unlocked with the keys inside in all cases, according to the Deal Police Department. Most incidents occurred in the early morning or overnight hours. Police are urging all residents to lock their car doors and to not leave their keys in their cars, even if they are parking in their driveways. Long Branch Police Report Increase in Car Burglaries

Incidents have been occurring in the Elberon and West End sections of the city

  The Long Branch Police are reporting that a series of car burglaries have occurred throughout the city over the last few days. Long Branch Police Capt. Jason Roebuck said most of the car burglaries have been in the West End and Elberon areas of the city. "The majority of these burglaries have been to unlocked vehicles or vehicles with valuable property left in plain sight," Capt. Roebuck said in a release. "When the valuables have been left in plain sight the windows have been broken out." The Long Branch Police continue to remind residents to lock their car doors and keep their valuables hidden or to remove them from their vehicle. Any suspicious activity should be reported to the police at 732-222-1000.

West Long Branch Police Report Car Burglaries in Turtle Mews

Cars were burglarized early Wednesday morning

  Several car burglaries were reported in Turtle Mews condominium complex in West Long Branch Wednesday morning. The West Long Branch Police said officers are taking reports and the detective bureau have been notified is beginning investigations into the incidents. The police, as always, are warning residents to lock their cars and keep valuables out of sight. Police say the most common targets of car burglaries are loose change, GPS units, laptop or tablet computers, cell phones or handbags.
