Blue Devils attempt at second consecutive Central Jersey Group I championship falls short.
Florence Twp. – Shore Regional’s bid to win back-to-back Central Jersey Group I titles came to end on Saturday as it lost to Florence, 23-0, in the in the NJSIAA sectional playoffs. Down 7-0 at halftime, the Flashes (8-1) limited the Blue Devils to just two yards of total offense and one first down in the second half to advance to the Central Jersey Group I semifinals where they will now face Dunellen on Nov. 18. Blue Devils secure spot in the NJSIAA sectional playoffs, look to defend Central Jersey Group I title
With its back up against the wall in a game it had to win to secure a spot in the NJSIAA sectional playoffs, on Saturday against Metuchen, Shore once again exuded the same will and determination that helped it capture the Central Jersey Group I title last season. Tied at 21, the Blue Devils capped a 14-play, 97-yard drive with a 1-yard touchdown plunge by senior quarterback Brendan Dula to give it a 27-21 lead with 9:37 left in the fourth quarter. On the Bulldogs’ ensuing possession, Dula, recorded the second of his game-high two interceptions as he returned a pass from quarterback Anthony Feltre 54 yards for a touchdown to help Shore seal a 35-21 victory over Metuchen in a nonconference game at Robert E. Blue Devils one step closer to playoff berth
With thoughts of defending its state title in the back of its minds, Shore Regional kept the dream alive as it hung on to defeat Highland Park, 26-14, in a nonconference game at Robert E. Feeney Field on Friday night. Although it wasn’t always pretty, on this night the Blue Devil’s best defense was their offense as they successfully kept the ball out of the hands of the Owl’s “big play offense” by controlling the ball for majority of the second half. “We did a good job of controlling the clock late in the game,” Shore head coach Mark Costantino said. “That’s always what we want to do. Blue Devils improve to 2-0
KEYPORT - In the second half of its game against Keyport, Shore Regional showed off some of that heart and resiliency that propelled it to the NJSIAA Central Group I title last season as the Blue Devils scored 19 unanswered points in the second half to defeat the Red Raiders, 25-16, in a Shore Conference Class B Central game on Saturday. Down 16-6 at halftime, Shore capped off a 12 play, 54-yard opening drive (that spanned over six minutes ) with a five-yard touchdown pass from senior quarterback Brendan Dula to senior running back Stefanos Koursaris to make the score 16-12.
