Nancy Wolcott, First Woman to Serve on Eatontown Council, Dies

Wolcott died at home in Scituate, MA

The following is Nancy Wolcott's obituary from from Legacy.com: Nancy Wye Wolcott, of Scituate, MA, died Friday, April 5, 2013, at home, after a brief illness. Daughter of the late Henry Sanders and Elizabeth (Bryning) Smith of Boston and Medfield, MA. Nancy was born in Mexico, was raised in Jamaica Plain, MA and attended Radcliffe College. She met her first husband, the late William G. Wye of Asbury Park, NJ, while he was attending Harvard. Nancy left Radcliffe in 1943 to marry and move to Washington, DC where she worked for military intelligence, contributing to the war effort as many women did during World War II. Obituary: Grace R. Mahon, 85, Raised 11 Children in Long Branch

The Long Branch resident was a former member and past president of the Ladies Auxilary of the Eatontown Elks; former member of the Long Branch Seniors, SCAN, and was a member of the Tinton Falls Seniors Club.

  Grace Regina (Gibbons) Mahon, 85, of Tinton Falls, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, April 11, 2013 surrounded by her family. She was born and raised in Newark, NJ. The daughter of the late James Nelson Gibbons and the late Catherine Cunningham Gibbons, she graduated from Good Counsel High School and became a Registered Nurse after graduating from Saint James Nursing School in 1947. She married Joseph R. Mahon in 1950 and moved to the Jersey Shore and over the next thirteen years had eleven children. While raising her children in Long Branch, Grace did private duty nursing, taught CCD classes at Our Lady Star of the Sea Church; and finished her nursing career in the office of Doctor John Stockfish. Irene F. "Meri" Durland, 84, a former beauty queen from Italy, passed away on Friday surrounded by family at her Long Branch home. Born in Livorno, Italy, Meri married Lee Durland, immigrated to the U.S. and first settled in East Orange and West Caldwell before moving to Long Branch, where she lived out her life. She had many friends throughout Monmouth County and beyond. Meri, known for her dedication and love of family, friends and animals, was a woman of strong faith and a parishioner of Our Lady Star of the Sea Roman Catholic Church, Christ the King Parish, Long Branch. Colette “Charlie” Tripp, 74, of Eatontown passed away on Thursday, Jan. 17, at her daughter’s home in Howell. Colette was born and raised at the Jersey Shore and moved to Eatontown in the early 1970s. She was a bartender at Pine Tree Tavern in Eatontown. Sea Bright resident Nancy J. DeScenza, 52, who served on the Shore Regional Board of Education for 26 years, died Monday, Nov. 5. DeScenza was raised in Monmouth Beach and Sea Bright and in 1978, became the youngest member of the Sea Bright Board of Education at 19. She retired from the board in September. Nancy was a strong woman who courageously fought long and hard against breast cancer for 10 years, according to Legacycom. During this time, she was an advocate for many fighting cancer and their families. Her loving and warm embrace would comfort many while her strong will and experience provided guidance to others.   The flags were lowered today as the Borough of Tinton Falls mourned the loss of former Mayor Ann McNamara who passed away peacefully on Wednesday night. Her devotion to public service to the Borough of Tinton Falls spans back to the 1980s; first as a Councilwoman and later as a four-term Mayor starting in 1989. "I am deeply saddened to hear of the passing of former Tinton Falls Mayor Ann McNamara" Mayor Michael Skudera said. "Her devotion to public service and commitment to the residents of Tinton Falls will greatly be missed". Ann McNamara lived in Tinton Falls with her family for over 30 years. Obituary: Andrew Tomaine, 87

Long Branch native died Oct. 19.

  Andrew Tomaine, a native of Long Branch who lived in Oceanport for 50 years, died on Friday, Oct. 19, according to Legacy.com. Tomaine operated the Third Avenue Sunoco Station, Long Branch, with his brothers Merrick, Phil, and Joseph, and also was proprietor of Plaza Cleaners in Asbury Park. Thereafter, he was employed by the Garden State Parkway. He was predeceased by his parents, Anthony & Josephine Tomaine, three brothers, Joseph, Philip, & Merrick; an infant son, Andrew, two nephews, Anthony & Joseph, and a niece, Jeannie and his brother-in-law, Hector.
