Watch Out Eatontown: The Wellness Crew is Coming for You

Ready or not, a team of volunteers is poised to infuse Eatontown with a shot of wellness.

We have something important to tell you. Are you sitting down?

Yes? Well, then get up and do some jumping jacks people, because it's time to get healthy.

This week Eatontown kicked off its Mayor's Wellness Challenge with a meeting of the minds. They were parents, coaches, scout leaders, teachers, fitness pros, councilmen and recreation employees, who gathered over carrot sticks and bottled water to strategize on one thing: Getting Eatontown healthy.

The event, headed by recreation aficiando Janice Grasso, who was assisted by Lindsay Corcione, is part of a statewide initiative to focus on reducing obesity and improving the health of residents.

The group of about 20 residents who participated, brainstormed a list of healthy initiatives that Grasso and her team will work into an action plan, which is only just beginning.

  • Classes on: fitness, healthful cooking, organic produce
  • Community wide walk to school days
  • Biggest Loser challenges
  • Family wellness challenges (with points and prizes!)

  • Screenings of documentaries like Sick, Fat and Nearly Dead
  • Fitness clubs for schools featuring
  • Health fairs
  • Naturalist guided nature walks through the arboritum
  • Marks and maps for trails at
  • Adopt-a-trail for businesses
  • Mental wellness through photo quilting
  • Possible partnership with Five Star Aquatic Fitness
