Seabrook Staffers Put Hammer to Nail, Saw to Wood and Passion to Building

A group of Seabrook staffers decided that they would do a little additional work, but instead of working at the office, they concentrated on giving back to the community by helping construct a house in Asbury Park for Coastal Habitat for Humanity.

The group of 11 Seabrook volunteers used skill saws, nail guns, and building equipment to build door frames and steps leading to the basement.  Some members of the group also caulked and dug sewer lines.

The Seabrook staff members who participated in this project are members of Seabrook’s Erickson Way Committee, named after Erickson Living, Seabrook’s developer and management company.  The Erickson Way Committee contributes to the community in different ways by helping various organizations.

“Hammering the first nail is always the easiest, but it can get harder and more tedious after a while,” said Seabrook Human Resources Manager Suzanne McBean who helped organize the project.  “For our group helping never gets hard or tedious.  The reward we get is the fact that we made a difference and that is priceless.”

Seabrook Executive Director Art Sparks said, “The Erickson Way Committee is an important extension of the Seabrook family and we always feel a sense of pride after helping our friends and neighbors.  Our continued cooperative efforts with the Habitat for Humanity play a significant role in the volunteer work we do and we are pleased to help others.”

The house-building project is one of many different programs that Seabrook is involved in.  The retirement community staffers and residents regularly work with the United Way of Monmouth County, the Jersey Coast Chapter of the American Red Cross, participate in the Alzheimer’s Walk in Point Pleasant, contribute to various activities for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, partner with the ARC of Monmouth, assist LADICIN (Lifetime Assistance for Developmental and Challenging Individual Needs), have painted a women’s shelter in Eatontown, regularly work with the FoodBank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties and beautify our waters through Clean Ocean Action.
