Congregation Kol Am Cooks For A Cause

Seven women prepared 70 microwave dinners for the Ronald McDonald House and The Center.

 

of Freehold cooked and packaged 70 chicken and rice dinners for the Ronald McDonald House of Long Branch and The Center in Asbury Park.

Phyllis Garr, member of the congregation's social action committee said the meals were delivered to local organizations where people are in need of a delicious, quick meal.

"The purpose is for families that are staying at Ronald McDonald House while their child is a patient at will have a meal that they can pop in the microwave oven when they return from their visit," explained Garr. "The Center uses the dinners so that AIDS patients have something easy to microwave while their caretaker is getting a break," she said.

Seven ladies from the congregation's social action committee worked on this project. Cooks include Garr, Bruche Sherman, Marcia Morris, Vicki Shernicoff, Ro Rosen, and Marcia Shapiro. The ladies prepared the meals in 5 different homes on April 29 and then met up at Garr's house to package the meals in freezer containers.

According to Garr, , , and gave gift certificates to paid for the dinners that the women cooked and donated.
