On Tuesday evening, members of the Wayside Fire Company of Tinton Falls conducted  a bus rescue drill at the Fort Monmouth Fire Academy located in the Charles Wood Area. Members of Oakhurst Fire Company, Pine Brook Fire Company and Tinton Falls Fire Company No. 1 also attended this training session.

Firefighters reviewed various procedures for accessing a school bus in the event of an accident, which would require the use of the "Jaws of Life" to access injured occupants. In addition to the review of rescue procedures with the "Jaws of Life," firefighters took the opportunity to utilize their saws to cut through the thick metal skin of a school bus; this is sometimes a skill needed by firefighters to force entry into buildings, properly ventilate it during a fire or as a technique used during a real world rescue scenario.

This was one of two drills conducted each month by the Wayside Fire Company. The volunteers of the Wayside Fire Company drill frequently to ensure that the volunteer force is able to effectively respond to emergencies in the Borough and surrounding communities.
