Another Beach Entrance Opens in Long Branch

Long Branch beaches are now being guarded seven days a week.

By Christopher Sheldon

Long Branch's beach season is officially in full swing and all but one of the city's beach entrances are open.

The Seaview Avenue beach is now open to the public as of this past weekend, according to Long Branch Office of Emergency Management Coordinator Stanley Dziuba.

Many residents were nervous that the destruction of the city's boardwalk by Hurricane Sandy would not allow people to access the beach this summer. Long Branch Department of Public Works crews have been working to make sure that is not the case and have built wooden steps and sand ramps at 14 of the city's 15 beach entrance points.

The beach entrances at Pavilion Avenue and North Bath Avenue opened two weeks ago, and 11 other entrances were ready to go by Memorial Day weekend.

The following beach entrance points are open in Long Branch:

• Great Lawn

• Madison Avenue

• Laird Street

• Chelsea Avenue

• Melrose Terrace

• Morris Avenue

• South Bath Avenue

• Matilda Terrace

• Cottage Place

• West End Avenue

• New Court

• Seaview Avenue

• Pavilion Avenue

• North Bath Avenue

The only beach entrance that is not open to the public is at Brighton Avenue. Dziuba said the city is currently ordering lumber to create steps that will lead down to the beach.

He said the Brighton Avenue beach entrance should be open in two weeks.

Beach Season is Open

Lifeguards are now patrolling the city's beaches seven days a week, after only guarding them on weekends for the last four weeks.

People flocked to the beaches on Monday for one of the hotter days of the year, but will now be paying to sit on the sand.
