Long Branch Track Star Captures Multiple State Titles

Senior sprinter Miles Shuler brought home NJSIAA Group II titles in a pair of races this weekend.

Long Branch senior Miles Shuler may have entered this weekend's NJSIAA Group II championships without the fastest times leading up to the meet, but he delivered when the spotlight was its brightest.

The defending NJSIAA Meet of Champions winner in the 100-meter dash captured NJSIAA Group II titles in the 100- and the 200-meter dash over the course of the two-day meet, fending off his primary challenger in both races, Snyder High School senior Zamir Thomas.

Shuler ran a 10.76 in the 100 to edge Thomas, who finished in 10.8 seconds, to win the 100 on Friday. He followed that by running a 21.95 to edge Thomas (21.82) in the 200 on Saturday at South Plainfield High School. Shuler had lost to Thomas in the 200 in last year's Meet of Champions, but showed he will be a serious threat to win both races this week.
