Jennifer Palmateer Named New Monmouth University Women's Basketball Coach

Former collegiate assistant coach and recruiting coordinator will take the helm for the 2011-12 season

Monmouth University has named Jennifer Palmateer as its replacement for former head women's basketball coach Stephanie Gaitley.

Palmateer spent 16 years as an assistant basketball coach at Virginia, North Carolina State University and Seton Hall. She served as a recruiting coordinator for Seton Hall last season, where she was responsible for recruiting as well as opponent scouting and game-planning.

The Wolfpack finished the season ranked in the Top-25 six times while Palmateer was there and made nine NCAA Tournament appearances, advancing to the three Sweet Sixteen three times.

On April 1, the university announced that it had accepted Gaitley's request to be released early from her contract.

Gaitley will be taking over as the head women's basketball coach at Fordham University for the 2011-12 season.

Gaitley coached the Hawks to a 23-10 season, second place in the Northeast Conference (NEC), and a berth in the WNIT where the team lost to Syracuse.
