Five Things To Know About Super Bowl XLVI

If you hadn't heard already, there is a pretty big football game on tonight that has the chance to make local fans either very happy or destined to take a sick day on Monday.

The New York Giants will face the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLVI on NBC tonight and millions of people from across the world will be watching.

Whether you watch for the game or the commercials, the Super Bowl is a holiday for most people and is treated as such in several households.

The beer and soda has to be cold, the guacamole has to be fresh and the buffalo wings have to be extra spicy as ravenous football fans prepare for the game day feast.

However, the Super Bowl is ultimately about the culmination of a hard and long NFL season where the two remaining teams will grind it out one last time to take home the Lombardi Trophy.

Here are five facts to know for tonight's game:

1. This will be the sixth Super Bowl rematch in the history of the NFL. The other Super Bowl rematches were between the Cowboys and Steelers in 1996, 1979 and 1976; Dolphins and Redskins in 1973 and 1983; the Bengals and 49ers in 1982 and 1989 and the Bills and Cowboys in 1993 and 1994. In those five matchups, a different team one only once when the Cowboys defeated the Steelers in 1996.

2. This will be the fourth time the Super Bowl has been held in cold weather city. Detroit hosted the Super Bowl in 1982 and 2006 and Minneapolis in 1992. However, the players should be pretty warm and toasty and Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis has a retractable roof.

3. Eli Manning and Tom Brady passed for a combined 10,168 yards in the regular season, which is the most ever by opposing starting quarterbacks in a Super Bowl. They are also the first Super Bowl MVP quarterbacks to face each other in the same game.

4. After defeating the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC Championship game, Brady and Bill Belichick became the first quarterback-head coach combination to reach the Super Bowl more than four times. The record was Terry Bradshaw and Chuck Noll who were a part of some fantastic Pittsburgh Steelers team in the 1970s. Brady now ties John Elway for the most Super Bowl starts in NFL history with five.

5. The 2011 Giants are the first team in NFL history to reach the Super Bowl after having been outscored by their opponents in the regular season. The scored 394 points and allowed 400 points.
