Wellness Campaign

Obesity is a growing health risk which impairs both the lives of those affected and increases health care costs for everyone. Municipalities are addressing this problem by promoting wellness activities for community members. With the ultimate goal being to improve community health, the Mayors Wellness Campaign is a program utilized by municipalities throughout New Jersey. The rapid increase in rates of disease linked to sedentary lifestyles (ie. obesity, diabetes, heart disease) has prompted municipalities throughout New Jersey to work toward improving wellness.

You may be asking yourself how this compares to the programs the Recreation Department already offers. In order to comply with the Mayors Wellness Campaign, we must develop programs in four areas – “Youth in Motion,” “Seniors in Motion,” “Employees in Motion,” and “Communities in Motion.” Our strategies in developing programs for the MWC require we cover physical, mental, and nutritional health.
