What Should Go Here? Old Star of the Sea Lyceum School in Long Branch

Long Branch Board of Education has been trying to sell property

The old Star of the Sea Lyceum School still sits vacant on the northeast corner of Third Avenue and Chelsea Avenue in Long Branch.

Long Branch School District Superintendent Michael Salvatore said the board of education (BOE) has been trying to sell the property for a number of years, but has been unsuccessful.

"We would like to use the sale for revenue for tax relief," Salvatore said.

The building previously served as an elementary school for the Star of the Sea Church, until it was closed in 1986 because of lack of attendance. The Long Branch BOE purchased the property in 1994.

It was built in 1900 but has many modern amenities including an auditorium and gym.
