West Long Branch Schools Forging Ahead With Interim Superintendent

With the departure of former superintendent Karen Wood, Herbert C. Massa has taken over as interim superintendent of the

Massa, of Howell, is also listed as the school's business administrator and board secretary as of July 1. Massa is approved as the school's interim superintendent through Dec. 31, according to secretary Thea Shovlin.

Massa came to West Long Branch after resigning as the Highstown Borough Administrator in March.

According to , Massa got his start at the age of 21 in Howell, where he ended up spending 28 years as assistant superintendent and school board secretary before going onto other districts for the next 9 years. 

Wood left the school in June to take over as superintendent of the Barnegat School District. Wood cited wanting to be closer to her home in Lacey and managing a larger school district as the main reasons for her departure.

West Long Branch is a K-8 school district and Barnegat is a K-12 district.
