Shore Regional's AP Program Honored by College Board

Named to AP Achievement List for expansion of and improvements to AP classes

is being honored by the College Board after being added to the Advanced Placement Program's AP Achievement District Honor Roll for 2011.

The West Long Branch school is one of fewer than 400 in the nation that is being honored by the College Board, which helps prepare students for college through its programs and services.

According to a release from the school, it is receiving the honor for "opening AP classroom doors to a significantly broader pool of students, while maintaining or improving the percentage of students earning scores of 3.0 or higher."

The number of Shore Regional students participating in AP has grown from 2008 to 2010 along with the number of students who score 3.0 or higher on AP exams. A 3.0 is typically the score needed to earn college credits.

Shore Regional Superintendent Leonard Schnappauf is "honored" to be acknowledged by the College Board.

"This achievement is a testament to our faculty’s dedication and the tremendous efforts of our AP students," Schnappauf said. "The district is both proud and humbled to stand amongst many of the nation’s premier secondary schools." 

The AP Achievement List includes 388 school districts from 43 states which are "expanding opportunity and improving performance" in AP classes according to the release.
