Shore Regional, West Long Branch Schools Closed Through Nov. 12

Shore Regional and West Long Branch School District students will not be returning to school until Monday, Nov. 12 due to Hurricane Sandy's impact on the area.

Sea Bright, one of the towns hit hardest by Sandy, Monmouth Beach, Oceanport and West Long Branch are sending districts for Shore Regional. Many families in these towns still do not have power and many homes were damaged or destroyed by the hurricane.

The Long Branch School District will remain closed through Monday, Nov. 5 and the Eatontown School District will be closed through Nov. 6.

"As soon as the streets are safe and power resumes we will communicate with you regarding school hours and openings," a message on the Long Branch School District web site states.

"School officials, borough officials, and public service providers are working hard to bring the community back to a state of normalcy," a message on the Eatontown School District's web site states. "On Monday, November 5th, an assessment of school facilities and area conditions will be conducted to determine the possibility of schools opening up on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, November 7th-9th.  Future updates will continue to be provided through the Code Red System, the district website, and other communication tools."

The Tinton Falls School District will also be closed through Nov. 6, and an update on whether or not the school will reopen on Nov. 8 will be posted on Monday evening.
