Shore Regional Receives Grant To Further Bullying Prevention

Local BP stations and Gill energy strengthen district's stand against bullying

implementation of anti-bullying measures was given a boost this week when the district received a grant from West Long Branch BP fuel stations’ (373 Monmouth Rd. and 133 Route 36) participation in the “BP Fueling Communities Program.”

The grant, which totals $6,250, will be allocated to directly fund several school-related anti-bullying programs.

Amongst the programs the grant will fund is Rachel’s Challenge, which will be hosted by Shore Regional High School, in conjunction with regional law enforcement offices.

Rachel’s Challenge will offer students, parents and community members an opportunity to learn how to “create a safe learning environment for all students by re-establishing civility and delivering proactive antidotes to school violence and bullying.”

Additionally, funds from the grant will serve to establish Shore Regional as a chartered, dues-paying chapter of the Surfrider Foundation, according to Shore Regional Director of Public Information Andrew Ker.

As an active chapter, student members will have the opportunity to participate in the Foundation’s core activities and campaigns for improving water quality, beach access, coastal preservation, and special place rotection.

Shore Regional Vice Principal Vincent DalliCardillo was thankful to BP for awarding the grant to the high school.

“Neither hosting Rachel’s Challenge nor becoming a chartered Surfrider Club would be possible without BP’s generous grant," DalliCardillo said. "Shore Regional is honored and proud to stand with community businesses that aim to strengthen and enrich the secondary school experience for all Shore students.”
