Shore Players Announce Upcoming Productions

Shore Regional theater program plans December, March shows

Shore Players, Shore Regional's theater program, is coming off its 50th anniversary season and has announced its productions for December and March.

Nuncrackers, The Nunsense Christmas Musical opens up the 2012-2013 season with a sneak peak performance for senior citizens on Wednesday, Dec. 5 at 7:30 p.m.  Shore Players will close out its 51st season with its spring production of the cult classic Grease! in March.

Nuncrackers, The Nunsense Christmas Musical, is presented as the first TV special taped in the Cable Access Studio built by Reverend Mother (Emily Mitro) in the convent basement. It stars Sister Mary Hubert (Hannah Stone), Sister Mary Paul/Amnesia (Mackenzie Deerin), Sister Robert Anne (Liza Amador) plus Father Virgil (Jake Cameron), and four of Mount Saint Helen's most talented students (Zachary Arlt, Julianna, Bristol, Thomas Dougherty & Emerald “Emme” Rempel).

The musical features all new songs including “Twelve Days Prior to Christmas,” “Santa Ain't Comin' to Our House,” “We Three Kings of Orient Are Us” and “It's Better to Give than to Receive.

Grease! gained a cult following after the release of the hit movie version of the Broadway musical, with star power like John Travolta, Olivia Newton-John & Stockard Channing leading the way. Now, Grease!, will be performed on the Shore Players stage for the first time since it debuted there in 2000.

Director Todd Aikens is known for his affiliation with this hit musical, after touring nationally as the slick, fast-talking disc jockey, Vince Fontaine, for over 2 years. Aikens also played an integral role in Shore Players’ first production of Grease! 12 years ago in assisting with the development of Vince Fontaine’s pre-show dance contest.

Assistant Director Jay Giberson made his stage debut in the 2000 production of Shore Players’ Grease!. Choreographer Tara Eccles has had her share of experience with the show as a Dance Captain and ensemble member in two different productions with Phoenix Productions at the Count Basie Theater in Red Bank.
