Ranney School Gets in the Shore Conference Game

Teams from the Tinton Falls school will begin competing against local schools in the Class B Central division in the fall.

Beginning next fall, students from Ranney School will get to face people from their own neighborhoods when their teams begin competing in the Shore Conference.

The private school in Tinton Falls was granted membership last week into the Class B Central Division and will allow the Panthers to compete with other small school like Asbury Park, Henry Hudson and Point Pleasant Beach, according to a statement from the school.

“Participation in the conference showcases a well-rounded student body, equipped with not only scholarship, but also character and athleticism,” said Head of School Dr. Lawrence S. Sykoff.

Ranney participated for many years in the Patriot Conference that consisted of 10 similarly sized independent prep schools, but was recently dissolved leading a number of schools to join the Shore Conference. According to the school, competing in the Shore Conference will allow Ranney to keep its close ties with some long-standing opponents and discover new competition from local schools.

“This will finally allow our athletes to face people from their own neighborhoods in a very competitive conference, leaving more time spent doing homework and seeing family rather than traveling from school to school,” said aquatics director and varsity swim coach Emmett Walling,

Ranney has varsity teams in 23 sports, including fencing and crew.

“We’re excited for people in Monmouth and Ocean counties to come to our campus and enjoy everything we have to offer,” said Ranney School Athletic Director Thomas Moriau.
