Billings was a former Long Branch High School teacher

The memory of R. Dave Billings will be honored again this weekend in Long Branch.

Billings was an industrial arts teacher and wrestling and girls softball coach at Long Branch High School for 23 years. He was also the vice principal of Keansburg High School before he passed away in 2007.

A fundraiser for the scholarship created in his memory will be held at Charley's Ocean Grill at 29 Avenel Blvd., Long Branch. The fundraiser will be held 12:30 to 4:30 p.m on Sunday, Oct. 21.

All the proceeds of the event benefit the scholarship fund.

A yearly award in the amount of $1,000 per year is presented to a graduating senior from Long Branch High School and/or Keansburg High School each year as result of the R. Dave Billings Scholarship.

Billings' wife, Kathleen Billings, is currently a Long Branch Councilwoman.

I will drive through the area tomorrow to see if I spot anything! Try googling volunteer searchRead More groups for missing dogs. There are a few in the NJ area. Also ask the local SPCA and Humane Society to see if they can lend you humane traps. Try patrolling the area with food of a strong odor...raw meat, steak, etc. Search in tiny groups and split up to avoid scaring him away, and always bring food and a leash in case you have to lure him over and then leash him. Try also sitting in the area last spotted quietly to see if he approaches you. Bring food so he smells it. Just a few things I have learned while doing some dog searches. Keep sharing and put up posters locally...it helps!
