Popular Rock Acts to Set Upon Monmouth

The Music as a Weapon V Tour is set for Monmouth University on Saturday, Jan. 22

In recent months, Monmouth University has seen a myriad of events grace the stage at the recently built Multipurpose Activity Center (MAC) in West Long Branch. Ever since the ribbon cutting ceremony to open the building on Sept. 16 of 2009, artists like Alice in Chains, the Backstreet Boys, Jackson Browne and even Bob Dylan have entertained the masses at the MAC.

Recently, it was announced that the Monster Energy Music as a Weapon V Tour will be hitting the stage at the MAC on Saturday, Jan. 22, with doors opening at 6:30 p.m. Performing this year at the tour will be renowned rock bands Korn, Disturbed and Sevendust.

Tickets for the event are $57, with a $3 processing fee per ticket. There is also a $10 fee per car for parking for the show.

Sevendust is an Atlanta-based heavy metal band, whose debut album was released in 1997. Some of their better-known songs include "Angel's Son," "Waffle," and "Enemy." Since their debut, they have performed on The Late Show with David Letterman and Late Night with Conan O'Brien.

Disturbed is a Chicago-based rock group that released their debut album in 2000. The band has seen a great amount of success in the time they have been active within the music scene. Some of their hit songs include "Stupify," and "Down with the Sickness." Recently, the band was nominated in 2009 for a Grammy Award for best metal performance for their single, "Inside the Fire."

Co-headlining the tour with Disturbed is the band Korn. Formed in California in 1994, the band has been one of the most popular metal groups in the past few decades. During their tenure, they have sold 30 million albums, and have won two Grammy Awards. In 2000, the band won for best short-form video for "Freak on a Leash," and in 2003, the band won for Best Metal Performance for their single, "Here to Stay."
