Popular Comedian Set to Perform at MAC

Joel McHale will be the first comic to ever play Monmouth University's Multipurpose Activity Center.

Last year at Monmouth University’s Multipurpose Activity Center (MAC), quite the eclectic array of events were held. Concerts from rock legends like Jackson Browne and Bob Dylan, to shows from today’s hot acts like Korn, Disturbed, All Time Low and Wiz Khalifa were hosted in the West Long Branch arena.

Now with the new school year soon upon us, Monmouth University has begun announcing their upcoming slate of performers to hit the stage at the MAC. The first person to be announced to play at the MAC this upcoming season is popular comedian Joel McHale. He will actually hold the distinction of being the first comedian to perform at the building since it’s opening several years ago.

McHale is well known as the host of the popular E! Channel show, “The Soup,” where he skewers pop culture and reality television shows including “Basketball Wives,” “Keeping Up with the Kardashians,” and “Jersey Shore.”

Being on a college campus will be nothing new to McHale, as he is also well known as the star of NBC’s comedy “Community.” In this show, he portrays Jeff Winger; a lawyer who gets his law license revoked and has to attend a community college in order to re-obtain his degree. This critically acclaimed show also features up and coming actors Donald Glover and Alison Brie alongside well known comedians including Ken Jeong and Chevy Chase.

Though he has two popular shows on television, McHale has also branched out to acting in feature films as well in recent years. Last year, McHale was part of the ensemble comedy, “The Informant!” starring Matt Damon. Currently, he is in theatres in the film, “Spy Kids: All the Time in the World in 4D,” co-starring Jessica Alba. Later this year, he will be starring in the comedy “What’s Your Number?” starring Anna Faris
