Monmouth University Students To Lend A Helping Hand To Local Businesses

Students will participate in 12th annual Big Event on Saturday, Oct. 22.

Saturday will be a big day for the Monmouth University Student Government Association (SGA) as they will participate in the 12th annual Big Event.

The Big Event is a community service program where SGA student visit local worksites and help community members and organizations with a variety of tasks. Over the last 11 years, over 3,000 students and volunteers have visited more than 300 worksites.

This year, 300 Monmouth students, staff and faculty who will spend the day performing service projects, such as painting, cleaning, clearing brush, or visiting senior citizen centers, and working with school children.

The bus will depart Monmouth University on Saturday, Oct. 22 at 10:30 a.m. from the Larchwood Avenue parking lot.

Students will visit the following locations in Long Branch, West Long Branch, Ocean and Ocean Grove:

LONG BRANCH

Long Branch Free Public Library, 328 Broadway: Shifting books

Stella Maris Retreat Center, 981 Ocean Avenue: Landscaping/Cleaning

First Baptist Church of Long Branch,499 Bath Ave: Painting/window washing/ landscaping/trash removal

Long Branch Beaches, Ocean and Melrose: Beach clean-up

Meal at Noon, 93 Liberty St.: Serve food, set tables, clean up

WEST LONG BRANCH

Shore Regional High School, 132 Monmouth Park Hwy: General painting and clean up

OCEAN

Deal Lake, 7th Ave & Steiner Place (boat ramp): Clean-up                                  

Joe Palaia Park, 200 Whalepond Rd. Oakhurst: Pick up litter

OCEAN GROVE

Francis Asbury Manor,  70 Stockton Avenue: Landscaping and clean-up
