Male high school students previously were only allowed to wear dark green or white polo shirts with the school's crest.

The uniform changes came about through the high school leadership council which polled students and asked them what new options they would like, according to Long Branch Communications Officer Walter J. O'Neill.

O'Neill said the students took the results, came up with a proposal and presented it to the BOE, which agreed that the changes would be beneficial to the district.

He said the uniform policy changes went into effect immediately after the BOE passed the resolution last Wednesday.

The dress code for all other students from kindergarten through eighth grade has not changed and they must still wear, white, grey or dark green shirts and khaki pants.
