Hurricane Sandy Causes Long Branch School District to Extend School Year

School year could be extended to June 26

Hurricane Sandy caused the Long Branch School District to be closed for eight days and now the school year is expected to be extended as a result.

The Long Branch Board of Education is expected to vote on a resolution to approve a revised school calendar at its meeting next week.

"They have built “2” snow days/inclement weather days into the revised schedule, we always have two days built in," Long Branch School District Communications Officer Walter O'Neill said today. "We had planned to go on summer break on June 19, 2013, but now we have extended the calendar to June 26, 2013."

"If more than two inclement weather days are used the Spring Break will have its days reduced accordingly," O'Neill continued. "If we don’t need those two days it will be added to the Memorial Day weekend."
